Re: GUN BLUEING
No, I don't think I've ever seen that done. In some cases, it might be alright. I imagine that chipping and cracking of the clear coat would be sort of a trade off, though.

Paste wax...

Re: GUN BLUEING
Johnsons Paste wax ( for furniture) is good. Car wax is about the same.
Will also prevent rust on a gun out in the weather better than most oils.
I use Birchwood Casey Gun Stock wax. Very good stuff and is 75% Carnuba IIRC.

Thanks much, Im going to try that out. Does it add any gloss? this is for a cresent butt plate. the cold blue i put on it looks pretty good but just a little flat to match the rest of the gun.

Re: GUN BLUEING
I use Minn Wax paste, and it adds shine to the finish of wood and metal. Let your cold bluing set up for a few days before applying any wax. It will remove some cold blues when they're fresh and fragile.

Re: GUN BLUEING
Lemon pledge has worked good for me.
I Spray down my motorcycle with it(the extra foaming kind)over the winter. Two weeks ago brought it out, hosed it down and it looks new.
It does a fantastic job on the chrome.
On the guns,I use it about every 3 months or so !Wood/Metal looks as new.

Re: GUN BLUEING
I have a B. Rizzini shotgun that has clear coat on the case color. It is my only complaint about the gun after about ten years. The clear coat has partially worn through where I carry the gun. At somepoint I will have to get the receiver refinished.

Re: GUN BLUEING
Back in the days when I hunted ducks and geese in the Texas costal marshes, I gave my shotgun a coat of Liquid Turtle Wax (automotive). It was all but invisable and really protected the firearm from salt air. If, I did not do this, the shotgun would rust before I got home. With the wax, it was good for four or five hunts before I needed to give it a new coat.
Re: GUN BLUEING
I have used T/C Bore Butter bullet lube on the out side of the gun,its mostly
bees wax and it smells real nice.
