Rossi in .357mag/38spl

Post by Scott64A »

I wandered by a gun store nearby today, and was pleased to actually see a .357mag/38spl Rossi behind the counter, so I had a look at it.

It's nice, but it has a 16" barrel, and I was kind of hoping for something like an 1894.
At $449.00, I let it stay there.

It was nice to see one, since I've been on the hunt for a levergun in .357mag for a while now, but with all of these Finned M91s following me home lately, and for rather short money, the .357mag levergun will just have to wait for now.

My god, has anyone shot any of these old Finnish capture Mosin Nagants? I swear, it's like a 30.06 in a much beefier military gun, and groupings are regularly insinde of 3", even out of an old 1897 Imperial I have that has been counter bored. I realize a 3" group is not inside of a minute of POA, but theyre shooters. I have a 39 Tula that is consistently inside of two inches with open sights.

I know, I digress, but man...

I'll keep the hunt on for a good .357mag levergun still, maybe a Marlin.

I bought a new Rossi with 16" barrel last month. I looked high and low for a Marlin but they are as scarce as hens teeth.

Old Savage... the same gun?
If so, I may just go get that 16"-er...

It would be the ideal bug out gun!

that 16 inch .357 would be an awesome all purpose rifle.

$450 is a good price. If it is still there, at least put it on laway. It will be a favorite gun soon after firing.

I bet they're quite well-preserved, frozen in ice since 1940. Does it come with a Russian paratrooper still attached?

Your note made me think of a story I heard about that winter war, many Russian parachutes didn't open and they would plummet into the snow. The Finns would ski up to the holes and shoot down them. Now they're selling off the recovered rifles to collectors? Good for them.

I had a brandy-new one ( 16" .38/.357) forced on me by my pusher, this afternoon !

Nice wood, nice polish/blue - I'm thinking of peeping it.

We had 2 new 1894Cs at the shop before Christmas and they sold within 3 days.

I am hoping to pick up an 1894c in the morning. I wouldn't mind having another puma but the whole LSI thing has turned me off to them.

You would be doing yourself a favor to keep more current, as LSI is long gone - except as used rifles.

In 2008 IIRC, a new company was formed by Rossi to produce/import the Model 92's - BrazTech Internationam, Miami, FL, a consortium/partnership of Rossi & Taurus International.

My new rifle, above, is one such, and it's fit/finish and overall quality is every bit as good as any Winchester I've owned - and I've owned quite a few over the years.

Pete, Thats's a really sweet looking Puma. I've got the same one with the large loop and short barrel in 357. I put a Marble's tang sight on mine really love it. Gives me a little more sight radius but still have the handiness of the trapper length barrel. I've been very happy with the accuracy of mine. Hope you will be as happy with yours.

They are still made by the same company. I have known about LSI and Rossi since before it was made public. I am simply stated the fact that I had a bad experience. I like the m92's, and one day I might get another, but for now I will stick with my Marlins.
