Well I put another 50 rounds down range this evening with my new Browning Low Wall in 45 Colt. This rifle is very addictive. I can not seem to put it down. I really like this 45 Colt cartridge, and it is he** on rocks(not bad on stumps either ).
I tried some IMR4227 this evening. The load shot well, however it was just as dirty as the 2400 I tried. I know you guys told me I needed to crimp the load. But I am reaslly trying to get away with not crimping. I am going to load up some Blue Dot and some Red Dot this evening and see how it burns. I would like to try some Unique however I do not have any, and my local reloading shop does not have any in stock.
Oh well, at least Griff can not holler at me this time, I got Pictures. Tom.

That is a very nice rifle. Now quite playing games with your ammo and crimp them. I've been loading the .45 Colt for around 34 years now and I can tell you, it NEEDS crimped; especially with smokeless powder. It's not some big long rifle cartridge that can do without it, it's a short handgun cartridge that needs it.
And I'll tell you something else about cartridge cases. You can get right at four loads out of a case before the work hardening begins to affect velocity and accuracy. The cases will still be good to load and shoot, but they are just not as good as they were new. I got this from Iowegan, a retired gunsmith and avid hand loader that posts over on RugerForum.net.
As for the crimps shortening case life that's nothing to worry about.
Cartridge cases are a gasket, a container for the other components, they don't last forever, but at .45 Colt pressures they seem to.

You might try Lil'Gun if you haven't already. I think it shoots cleaner in these cases.
I once drooled for a few weeks over a gun like yours in .357Mag. I had a plan to have it chambered in .357Max. When I finally decided to go ahead, some smarter person had already bought it.
I have one in .260 Rem though. Value went up so high I'm afraid to put a scratch in it.
