Beautiful place - good to raise a kid in. They will do and learn stuff they could never do in a city or subdivision.

You have a nice place there Handy. We had our house built by professionals at least that's what they call themselves. My wife did the design work on it. We played back and forth about the width of the porch we have on three sides. Couldn't decide on 8' or 10'. We went with the 8' but now see the 10' would have been better. It's just hard to justify it at the start. It's like having an extra room on the house.

Handy,
You sure are handy :D Very nice and informative post. Thats my idea of living---doing most everything yourself and livin' away from the rat race.

You have yourself a nice family and home. Your set up somewhat like me, with other siblings living near each other. Thanks for the tour :D ---------Sixgun

Now you gone and done it!!!! The wife and I want to move to Idaho to be closer to family and friends and someday we will hopefully. We tried last year but it was to close to the collapse of the economy so things didn't work out but if and when things pick up we would like to move to the twin falls or pocatello area.

I enjoyed your photo essay.

That's a neat deal. Especially you building your home with your Dad. Sounds like you're on the right track.

Thanks for the comments! We are having a good life here, despite the tough times. I lost my job a year ago, and the only new job I was able to find was right back where I was raised. It required us to pick up, sell a home, move out of state, but now we're back to our roots.

Speaking of roots, here is a tidbit of info we found interesting. You know that hay that grows up everywhere... When we dug out the basement and foundation, which was 8 feet below the surface that you see -- THERE ARE ALFALFA ROOTS DOWN THERE! We couldn't believe the tangled mess! And at 8 foot depth! It's no wonder this stuff can grow so well on little to no rain. It's got drinking straws way down there!
