109 year old Marlin 22 cal.
I just bought a really nice Model 1892 that dates to 1900. I had an extremely difficult time believing it was all original until I looked down the bore. It's perfect! I've never seen an 1892 with anything better than a "fair-to-good" bore. This was a well taken care of, but used rifle. It even has some case coloring left, on the hammer, lever, & buttplate.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

Very, very nice! I've always wondered how such great guns can withstand that many years and not all be worn like most we see? Nice to see a survivor that was extremely well cared for!

Horsley Park Gun Shop (HPGS.com.au) has one for sale at the moment, but not as nice as yours.
Good condition but brown all over and timber finish is not as good, has same sight set up and bore / action are good.
They are asking $2500 Australian which is about $2000 US.
Price seemed high to me.
Can I ask how that would compare to US prices for the same rifle??
Thanks,
Pop.

Congtats, Jdad, that's one on the nicest '92 marlins that I have laid eyes on.

Whenever I find a well cared for, older, rimfire I really wish I could find the history. The "lowly" 22 was utilized as a house, barn, small game, target, etc firearm that it really amazes me also when an example like this has survived.
I know a whole lot about very little and nothing about a whole lot.

Is that the one with the loading gate in the receiver or was it the model prior to that one with the gate for 22's? That is in fabulous shape for it's age. Nice find.

Re: 109 year old Marlin 22 cal.
The first year (1891) Model 1891 was a side loader. It was difficult to load, so Marlin offered loading tubes that were very similar to the Winchester gallery tubes. Marlin switched to the extendable tube loading, in 1892. Interesting enough, the Model 1892 was not officially introduced until 1895.Rimfire McNutjob wrote:Is that the one with the loading gate in the receiver or was it the model prior to that one with the gate for 22's? What's really impressive to me is the lack of a blackened border at the wood to metal joints. It's just crazy clean. Great find.
