YOU'LL FIND VERY LITTLE. BY 'N' LARGE UNIVERSAL IS WAY TOO FAST BURNING FOR USE IN THE 357MAG WITH 200gr BULLETS. THE FASTEST POWDER I CAN FIND TESTED DATA WITH IS BLUE DOT.
YOU CAN DEVELOPE SUCH LOADS BUT YOU BETTER BE CAREFUL AS SUCH THINGS IN THE 357MAG CAN GET OUTTA HAND VERY QUICKLY.

M M, back in '85 while trying out the Speer jacketed 200 gr bullet I asked them what loads they suggested. They sent me 8 loads but as Terry says the fastest they quoted was Blue Dot.Everything else was either H 110,296,4227,#9,2400 or 800X.

I will give you what CCI gave me from an old spread sheet.
Bullet:357-200grainTMJ, OAL-1.565 ( crimp over shoulder), case Speer and Winchester, Firearm:Dan Wesson,8 inch barrel with 1-18.75 twist , Primer- CCI 550, IMR 4227--Start at 10.6 grains for 664 fps : Max --11.8 grains for 841 fps.
I shot these in a 7.5 inch 357 Redhawk and got great accuracy at 200meters .
The best loads in my revolver was with 296 both in velocity and accuracy.

With 296 do you HAVE to use a magnum primer? Some of my manuals say yes, others don't.

Yes, you should use a magnum primer with W296/H110.

I don't have any data for Universal Clays..

6.0 grains of Unique yeilds 1100 fps with a 200 grain bullet from a 6" barrel.

10.0 grains of 2400 yeilds 1200+ fps with a 200 grain bullet from a 6" barrel - probably one of the best loads for this weight bullet.

12.4 grains of W296 (with mag primer) yeilds 1300+ fps with 200 grain bullet (noted as hard cast) from 6" barrel.

If shot from a carbine, add another 15- 20% to the velocity.

O.S.O.K. and Milton

do you have pressure data for those loads? do you have specific bullet info, like seating depth and crimp-to-nose? do you have any lil'gun data for the 200s?

that 2400 load sounds good.

thanks,

Grizz,The info I received from the Omark Ind. lab years ago sited a 200 grain FMJ, Speer silhouette bullet ,number 4231.The bullet as they used it was NOT crimped in the crimp groove but over the front driving band. This gave an O.A.L of 1.565 inches. The pressure they quoted was 46,000.The top load they quoted for 2400 was 10.5 gr for 936 FPS,this again from an 8 inch Dan Wesson.

thank you.. that's top pressure, but a lead bullet would get that velocity with less pressure... might have to give it a go.
