OT-How's your summer been?

It's been pretty miserable in Northern New England. I can't remember the last time we had a day without rain and the temps have mostly been in the upper 50's and low 60's. During the ten minutes a month the sun shines, the deer flies come out in swarms. Everyone's crops are rotting out, and we only have another two or three months before the constant rain turns into constant snow. A year without a summer can be really demoralizing.

I think the weather in almost all regions is miserable. It comes down to what sort of miserable you can stand the most. I'm about ready to trade cold wet and miserable for something dry and miserable

Yep, wifie and I have been trying to get outta here for several years. Things just won't jell for us. But as soon as it does this place can go back to the dogs for all I care.

Pretty darned pleasant. No scorchers yet, and only a couple of days of subtropical moisture moving up to raise the humidity. Drove down Pacific Coast Highway, from Zuma to Santa Monica today. Ahh, the scenery was very nice. The sand and water wasn't bad looking either.

So much rain here in Wyoming we think we have been transported somehow to western Oregon

Have managed to shoot a few PD's, go to some gunshows, shoot a little, most outdoor activities just rained out, rivers still too high to fish. Should get better in the next couple of weeks.

Well Jason, let's see, today - sky is blue, ladies are out, Lilies of the Nile are in bloom and as you can see I am not too formal in the office in the summer heat. The young lady is a volley ball player - hit in the head twice and had headaches - been taking care of her since she was nine.

Jason, it's been just about the coldest, wettest June here in Maine since they've
been keeping records.

We're thankful, though - it could be all snow!

Don't laugh - look up 1816 - "The Year With No Summer" on Google. And of course,
it's only been 10,000 years or so since the last Ice Age in these parts.

Here in California's central valley it has been unseasonably comfortable. Really wierd June. Significant rain and rarley over 100 this month. Both rather unusual for here!

Well on living up, my niece, on the right, and her boyfriend and their crew have the inside track. There are an endless number of pics of them at Cabo, Havasu, Hawaii etc.

Northern California has been great. Late rain filled up all the lakes, and the streams and rivers are full of big trout

O.S.---Now there is one fine looking group of happy beach goers.(neice is gorgeous)as well as the rest.
Hey,My brothers "in-laws" which lived prior in the Catskills, every time they visted my brother/sister-in law I let them stay at my Summer Home for several weeks at a time for the last 8-10 years.
Guess where they just bought their new permanent home? Hawaii "MAUI Island"

They said I have a place reserved anytime because of all the years I let them stay at my summer place.They have a new "Double Town House" with extra rooms for quests

Actually the price was not that bad considering!
I am starting to feel its party time soon!

Yeah, perfect here, after two years of bad drought, and extreme heat, now it's balmy and bright. Right now it's San Diego weather, as opposed to the desert weather we usually have here.

Let's hear from the San Diego crowd, they always complain when the temperature moves out of the 70's in either direction, or if a cloud passes over the sun for more than 15 minutes.

Its at Maalaea Yacht Marina They have an 3 year old 1200 Sq. ft.double Town House(Ocean View).
They told me for around 75-125K you can actually get a nice single condo over there.Their daughter already has a job giving diving excursions and says every day its like a Vacation! She is looking at buying a condo asking price is $65K????????????
Cannot believe you can actually get any decent condo in Hawaii for that???????

Seems here in Kansas, you always have too much of a bad thing. In winter, it's freezing, and the crud on the roads eat up your car. In the summer, the horny toads crawl in the campstove to cool off, and the insects pile up on your car. Cars can't win in Kansas, neither can people who just want a nice balmy day once in awhile.

In all honesty,I would really like to move to a beautiful climate.
Southern Californa has that,and Hawaii does as well.
Its funny as even at 50 years old the winters just seem to last forever any more.It just amazes me that you can "really" buy a decent place in "Hawaii" for that reasonable of a price??? I mean the homes where I live for a decent home run $150K-$275K without any added land.(I know, cheap compared to Southern California)

I dont know what the catch is,but I will find out now that I have
relatives living there and a wifes relative probably moving there pretty soon.Their taxes even look very reasonable?I know food probably is expensive but the brothers "in-laws" say they just buy all local grown stuff and its not really that bad,also because you are inclined to enjoy the outdoors much more you stay more active and self conscious of what you eat! Boy, my wife would really love running that climate/countryside there ,shes a workout fanatic (size 3)besides they say you dont spend the heating/cooling costs there also.They said soom places dont even have contained/closed doors/windows??Anyway another year wife can also retire (30+ years at any age)so this is somthing that could be a real possibility

Hope it dont give me a heart attack always around those gorgeous babes?????
Oh well, I will die happy!

In the meantime this year we will just go to Cape May, NJ several times.

Do you find as you age, the winters are getting to be real bummers?
Dont get me wrong,up to Christmas its ok, the fall hunting and such is really great but its that 3-4 months after that justs gets old real fast any more.If you had the chance for warmer/sunnier days would you go for it? From one northern Pa man to another northern Pa man!

I don't mind winter per se, I like the change of seasons. What I have less tolerance for is shoveling and blowing snow. I live in an "elderly" neighborhood, and I clear my driveway and those of two aged couples who are in their mid to late 80s. If they went out trying to keep dug out and fell and broke something, it would really bug me.

We get a lot of lake effect snow here on the east side of the ANF, and nearly every day it's another inch or three of white stuff. It takes about 1/2 hr with a couple of aluminum "pusher" shovels, one under each arm and held so that they overlap a couple inches, but darn it, does it have to fall every day? The next door family is fairly young, late 30s, and they don't work. They have his and hers trust incomes and generally wake up about 15:00. He blows his driveway at 00:00 to 01:00. No kidding. I usually turn in about the same time, and I'm up at 04:30 to 05:00 but I would not dream of firing up an 8hp two stage blower at that time. I'll shovel.

As for leaving for warmer climes, I just can't see it. I love north central PA, Cameron, Elk, McKean, Potter counties up here at 2000-2300 ft above sea level. I love the forests, the wildlife, the change of seasons, etc.

I once lived in western VA and eastern WV for nearly 15 yrs and for a time in western KY and the humidity was a killer, then the rainstorms and hurricane fallout was something else. And bugs. I graduated from the University of Parris Island in '72 and that experience cured me of ever wanting to live in SC or GA, especially in coastal or near-costal areas. I'm halfway to 110 now, and I just can't see being 75 and screwing plywood over my windows and being cooped up inside with the A/C for eight-nine months a year. When I do retire, I'll still have some kind of AWD or 4WD with ice-formula snow treads. I'll blow the driveway when it's convenient, and just not go out if the white stuff is deep.

But the short answer, yes, I grow less patient of winter, and "summer" is really June through Sept. May is still cool and frosty, with the last frost frequently in early June, and the first frost as early as mid Sept. That's SHORT.

Noah, I hear what your saying.That area in which you live is really beautiful with fantastic hunting.Down the road you can also always pick up a really good shape ATV 4x4 off season pretty cheap and put on a cycle country snow plow.It takes me to do 300ft of driveway.(5mins?????) yes 5 mins.after once she warms up a couple mins after starting it up in the garage.
In the winter I run the yamalube 4CW(cold weather)oil it starts right up and warms up like a car.
I keep it backed in the garage hooked up to a battery tender.
Start her up pull out of the garage hit the winch up/down button(my blade runs off my winch)drop the blade and go. 2 swipes back and fourth which only takes about 1 minute each pass(4mins)if there is over a foot I just put it in 4WD diff lock and it does not even feel it.
I also have a big John Deere Farm tractor will a custom 7ft.front blade and have the rear tires loaded, and have double ring chains on it but that atv is much better.By the time I start the big JD up and warm her up.With the Grizz 700 I am done man and shes back in the garage also I keep her out and play.Only way to go! I did buy the Yamaha plow Ice V-Bar tire chains for all 4 tires but have not needed them to be put on.

For the last 3 weeks ...just to danged hot... over 103 every day in recent memory.

I have not had a horse out before 7 pm... and my schedule doesnt allow early morning rides during the week.

We've been having day time temps in the low 60's and night temps in the 40s. We had 14 consecutive days of rain a day long break, and now we're up to 3 consecutive days again.

Never thought I could get cabin fever in the summer

Global warming no doubt. My wife read something about this being the year without a summer in some parts of the country.
