I will say that it is serious. He can describe how serious.

Very serious.......we almost lost our son when he was 14, body poisons itself from the inside by not being able to pass waste.

Not to be evasive or meaning to be rude, but probably not a 'leverguns' topic. Particularly since a member just had same. Granted, he posted it and isn't therefore keeping it private, but a physician has to kind of err on the side of privacy and so on. I know no 'details' about anyone here to 'leak' anyway, but I want to avoid any appearance of same or to get anyone making assumptions.
Just a brief and I realize 'vague' answer, though (since you can look it up on WebMD anyway ) - it can be anything from too much cheese to cancers of various sorts. Doctors approach it same way a homeowner would approach a barking watchdog.
First rule out emergencies - house on fire, intruders inside, or ruptured appendix, etc.
Second rule out urgencies - empty pan smoking on stove, strangers on porch, or diverticulitis, etc.
Third rule out slow but dangerous - unmarked van pulling into drive, colon tumors, etc.
Last rule out slow but less dangerous - kids on bicycles with paintball guns, food intolerance, etc.
I'd rather not go further into a medical discussion though on this forum for the above reasons.
As always, I think one of the terrific things about we relative strangers on leverguns is how we show support for our own members, and I'm sure prayers are welcome from all quarters, but I'd let God handle the 'specifics' rather than all of us speculating. God's got a pretty good track record on that, judging from prior 'prayer request' posts on this forum.
