OT-Put my foot down last night at home

Post by awp101 »

And compromised...

When we got a puppy last year, we put his pen in the spare bedroom. I was reminded last night that The Boy expects to have enough credits to graduate HS in November and then he's going to live with his brother in CO. I looked at the good puppy dog and said "Oh boy! I'll have a reloading room by Christmas!"

I didn't get The Look. I got the full head turn, stare and "You're going to have WHAT?!? That's where Hank's pen is going!"

I gently reminded SWMBO that other than a 5'x4' area for the computer, the only "room" I have is the garage where I have to fight through everyone else's junk and summer in Texas ain't exactly the most fun time to be in a garage. Plus it was made known to me early in our marriage that my decorating taste doesn't fit the picture she has in mind for our home and I have airplane/auto/firearm pics that have been put away for years that I'd like to see on a regular basis.

It was decided Hank's pen will stay where it is unless we have guests and then it will move into "my" room.

Can you put up a window type airconditioner in the garage?

Teach "Hank" to hold an empty loading die set box in his mouth, to "assist" you in your loading - and setup your (AND his) new reloading room.

Nope, I have nothing to contribute to this thread. Thought I did, but don't. But I just can't help myself.

I have no room in the garage either. Wife want's me to work on her truck, fine but not when it's too hot, or raining, or snowing - cos she's got 80% of the garage filled up with JUNK and I can't even walk through it to my tools and stuff. As for my loading area I get maybe 8'x10' in the basement. She gets the rest of the basement other than the laundry area for her stinking crafts and sewing.

Keeping a puppy in a pen in a bedroom???? Poor dog.
Turn the dog loose, let him be a dog not a parakeet.

Tell SWMBO you are TAKING that bedroom and if she don't like it - she can just stay the heck out of it.

Sounds to me like you are getting the dirty end of the stinky stick.

Like most of us married guys

Get a laptop, or better yet a notebook to maximize space then scan your photos to your new comp..you can have a slide show running on it as you operate your portable clamp mounted press that utilizes the new made space! Or get a Lee Hand Press and defiantly recline in front of the TV and go to work! Train the dog to lay at your feet

It's kind of hard to scan a 36"x36" P51 print...

We have a lot of give and take in our relationship becuase she wants everything to look like a picture perfect magazine layout and I prefer a "someone actually LIVES here" look. We also have a running joke about "LETTING" the other do something/go somewhere. A bunch of her friends have to ask permission to go out and about or they keep the reins tight on their significant other and "allow" them to go out with their buddies. This drives her nuts and we kid each other about it.

I think I caught her off guard because she already had plans for what she wanted to do with the room and I called dibs first.

Joe the puppy dog lives the life of Riley, trust me. The pen is one of those 6'x4', 52" tall open top jobs. When it gets into the heat of the day during summer he comes in for a couple of hours if someone's home since we're usually talking high-90s and into the 100s with heat indices of 105-115 degrees. During the winter it depends on the temp and wind chill but he's a cold weather dog for sure. He sleeps on a silk blanket in there my wife was getting rid of but she decided he needed something to sleep on. She spoils him a durn sight more than she does me....

Being a year old border collie mix, keeping him inside all the time IS NOT an option. He'd bring the house down in short order.

Andrew, you might think of putting an add-on to your garage with a window-type ac unit. That's basically what my shop/reloading/gun room is. Though, mine's "inside" the same building as the garage - just off to one side. It's not very expensive to add decking, frame the walls and a shed roof and make a nice, dedicated manroom that won't cause any marital strife ;)

Finishing that room was the very first thing I did when we moved in :D

Some of us do pull it off :D

I told Blondie I didn't care about what she did with the house except the basement and my half of the walk in closet.
The rest of the place i couldn't care less about except no flowers/ wallpaper or yellow and the first kid that moves out I
get his room. She did a nice job too. Lots of oak, leather and iron but still has a woman's touch.

I wish I had my camera with me today. She met me when I got home in a string bikini with high heels and sunglasses, WOW!

I'm a LUCKY guy! :D

I'm with you brother! My tastes, for decorating (or matching clothes, or clothes in general), just plain stinks. I have made a deal with my wife for each of the homes we've lived in. She gets to decorate every room except the garage and my office. The only time I wanted to see her in the latter was with nothing on but a smile (ah, those were the days - long before kids! ).

Now I've added the basement to my domain. It is a happy equilibrium!!!

I get one locked room in the basement for guns and reloading. I also get the whole darn garage, as my old Camaro takes up the garage, plus tool boxes, benches, Goldwing, take up the rest. What the wife does with the rest the house is OK by me.

My idea of decorating is to take the reloading Post-it Notes and load charts off the wall before painting!

My wife gave up long ago, now she accepts various MTM boxes of varmint cartridges sitting on the buffet's Belgium lace doily waiting for the next bi-weekly hunting trip. She doesn't mind two gun safes in the spare bedroom, or an entire floor to ceiling wall of shelves with reloading supplies, or even the bright red roll-around tool chest. She admires the autographed picture of the Lipizzaner horse and rider hanging on the wall, the fireman's helmet, a photograph of her engineering the Old Number 9 locomotive, the three cowboy hats, the loading bench covered in chaos, a braided horse's tail from the last Saddlebred I worked hanging out of a box of memorabilia, and the closet shelves full of loading manuals, catalogs, used targets, half finished model train cars, the assortment of Penn deep sea fishing reels and an entire warren of dust bunnies.

She did however draw the line when I plopped down at the kitchen table with a carburetor and a rebuild kit. She changed my mind and I sent the thing to L.A. and had it rebuilt. Grabbed a cold beer after returning from the UPS store, and smiled because she bought my ruse to get to spend money on sending it off. Some women are worth keeping.

Heh. Mine kicked me out of the house, annexed the spare room for her scrapbooking. I'm relegated to the garage, which is large enough for six (smallish) cars if I took all the cr*p out. I'm happy, she's happy.

She's even insisting I drive a thousand kilos to attend a silhouette shoot, just because she wants me and the kids out of her hair for a week.

Life's hard :-)

And no, she doesn't have a sister...

On our property we have three sheds. One of them is electrified and serves as my loading shack. It is under a tree and the shade plus a fan keeps it cool enough to work in even in the Summer. The wife is not even allowed in there. It is my personal domain. I load all the ammo that she gets to shoot, and it works out just fine.
