Leaving tonight for a Boar hunt with my daughter

Post by foxtrapper »

Ahh yes autumn is in the air. Finally got all my ducks in a row and the long awaited boar hunt will kick off tonight. My daughter will be toting a Marlin 1894P in 44mag of course ,using home brewed cast 250 grners. Me, a Reeder converted Ruger single action in 510 GNR. 350 gr going about 1100fps should get the job done! We have been planning on this hunt for a long time,so I can't believe the subject of a boar charge never came up till today. Should of seen her face as I explained to her about laying down the rifle and pulling yourself up a tree to clear the tusks!! The tree climbing is only for a uninjured boar that we are not interested in taking, as for a boar that we decide to take, stand firm aim and shoot, shoot, shoot.

Good luck to both of you! On a boar charge, they put their nose down and cock their head to the side when they are just a few feet from you. This is because they thrust their tusks up and to the side. They don't want to run you over, so they veer off at the last second to gash with the tusks. This is why most people that get cut by a boar are cut across the shin or calf. Wait until you see the nose drop and wham him between the eye. Of course, this would be at around 10 ft from you, so be prepared to stand your ground until he gets to that distance and postures. I'm looking forward to photos.

Had a great hunt :D Weather was perfect as were all the hunters in camp. We were in Vermont at Wildhill Lodge. My daughter made a great shot dropping her boar in it's tracks. That hard cast 250gr bullet entered the neck and exited mid ships. She is hooked as this was her first head of big game :D

Congratulations to you both! Nice hogs.

Put the direct link to the pic from photobucket inside the brackets that show up when you click the Img button.

You can resize them on photobucket too. There is an edit button somewhere when you pull up the pic.

I went to your photobucket because I have a "thing" for the 1894P, very nice! Very nice lady using it too! I resized the pictures to fit the forum's requirements.

I bought a 1894P last year and shoot it with my 300-grain cast bullets. I've killed quite a few hogs with the rifle in a year. I killed four with one shot last December! I put out a line of feed so they would be in a row and I was expecting two at best but got four! There was more that 30 in the sounder and as the hauled for thick cover I shot another!

I see someone else beat me to it. I've turned the BBCode off so that you can see how things should look

Use the bracketed "img" to open the link and the bracketed "/img" to close it. Your link would look like this:
[img]http://s806.photobucket.com/albums/yy34 ... 0_0168.jpg[/img]

Before you upload the pictures to photobucket, use a photoshop program to reduce them. Better all around that way as the large images take up a lot of space. A good, easy to use, free, program is http://www.irfanview.net/
