Festus's mule was named Ruth. Was Doc's horse named Sadie?

The goofy (very funny) barber "Floyd" on the Andy Griffith Show, Howard McNear, portrayed "Doc" on the original radio show.

And William Conrad played Matt Dillon - the Commissioner and star of the black-and-white TV series of the 50's, "The Highway Patrol."

If I am not mistaken, the star of "Highway Patrol" was Broderick Crawford, not Bill Conrad.

Also some trivia- William Conrad did try our for the TV role of Matt Dillon, but wasn't picked for the role because during a screen test in which he was supposed to hurry up and get up from his armchair, he "got stuck" in the chair and it lifted up with him.

He sure had a h-ell of a radio voice, however.

Oops - what was I thinking? You are right. William Conrad was the TV detective, "Cannon," among other notable large guy roles.

Ken Curtis was a singer in his younger days. He sings a solo in the John Wayne movie "Rio Grand".
Was he with the "Sons of the Pioneers?

Here's one for ya.........They killed Gilligan's Island even though it had far better ratings than Gunsmoke because it was a "higher up's" wife's favorite show. They took Mary Ann away from us in her prime for a Western that never was popular enough to make it any farther without intervention. Heck, the 80's Gunsmoke Westerns were better than the TV show. ALL IMO of coarse.
