Question for Rossi or Puma 92 owners
Will your Rossi or Puma 1892 357 feed 158gr Semi Wadcutters?
I just loaded 50 to try in mine. Mine would NOT feed them loaded in .38Spcl cases. Will yours? TIA!

Mine feeds Lyman 358156 LSWC's all day, in either .38 or .357...

I have a 44 and it feeds everything that is short enough. Keith swc's in 44 mag cases are too long and bind coming out of the mag tube. In 44 Spcl cases they feed slick. The chamber mouth on mine has been throated - came that way.

I have one of the newer Braztech Rossi .357's. Feeds Lyman SWC 358429 great in 38 spl cases loaded to the crimp groove but will not in .357 cases as they are just a hair too long. If I load the mag cases to sammi max oal spec with that bullet they run fine. The 358156 SWC runs just fine in either case as it has a shorter nose.

Re: Question for Rossi or Puma 92 owners
OK, here's the deal with 92's and SWC's. There are so many different brands and shapes and OAL`s of 38`s and 357m SWC's out there that is impossible for one gun to cover them all. "It's a stuff shoot". The 92 tends to do a better job of feeding SWC's than a marlin 1894 does. This is because the 92 kind of rolls them up, then over into the chamber, where the 1894 pretty much feeds them straight in. The problem with the SWC's is the bullets cutter band can hang on the chamber mouth going in. If the 92 chamber mouth is slightly ramped and the carrier comes up enough and the OAL is correct the 92 will feed them every bit as good as the RNFP's. The older InterArms Rossi's were notorious for not having any ramping and the carrier detents inside the frame weren't consistent so they were notorious for stuttering on the SWC's. If your 92 won't feed them before you do anything to the gun the first thing to try is changing OAL. If your SWC's are in 38spec brass you may need to set the bullet out more. Short 38's tend to flatten out before the bullet inters the chamber. If you load them to about 1.5" OAL that will help. Really long 357's will sometimes hit the top inside of the chamber before they break over and go in. Try shortening them some. Also, to get the OAL with a lead bullet you don't have to crimp in the crimp groove. Just crimp right into the side of the bullet where you need it.fatoldfool wrote:Will your Rossi or Puma 1892 357 feed 158gr Semi Wadcutters?

In essence pistol cal leverguns are very much like semi-auto pistols, there is some ammo they just won't feed but like the pistols, feeding can be improved.

My Interarms Rossi SRC .357 will feed .38 and .357 swc loads fine. MY Rossi .45 Colt will feed them also. I feel fortunate that do feed them without trouble.

Re: Question for Rossi or Puma 92 owners
My Rossi M92 Puma chambered in .44 Magnum has eaten everything that I could feed it. My .357 Puma is a different story.
When I first took the .357 Puma out of the box, I tried to feed it multiple brands of ammunition (I am not a reloader), and found that I could not feed any ammunition that was not roll crimped. After a judicious bit of polishing to the entry of the chamber and endless feeding of roll-crimped ammo, the .357 Puma will now eat anything I feed it. I'm sure that there is a proper mechanical solution, but elbow grease and a long break-in process did the job just fine.
