O.T. Kelly Kettle

Post by Cliff »

Has anyone heard of these for brewing up hot liquids or tea? Seems to be an interesting item. Double walled pot, with fire pot on the bottom, chimney passing through the pot. Seems to be popular with some, claim while light they can be bulky. Been around for a number of years. Seems interesting. Just wondering of maybe getting a small one. Thanks.

I like to introduce my (first and only) wife to strangers by saying, "...this is my first wife," and say her name. It's fun to watch them later whispering among themselves trying to figure out why I'm at the party or whatever with her, and who or where my second wife is...

I have read about them on their website. It apparently goes back a long ways to when Scottish or Irish or whatever fishermen would come ashore and need something like soup or coffee that's hot, fast. Looks pretty good considering it will work on any burnable material. The price seems pretty good to considering how long it will probably last you. They talk a bit about them over at the Hoodlum forum.

Dunno about you folks, but I prefer a kettle that does good homebrew beer, my wife makes a mean drop its good to drink too. No tax either. The sights do get a little fuzzy after a couple of pints!! Must be a problem with the cane sugar. They gotta stop spraying the stuff!!!

Cliff, I have used a freinds many times. They are very good indeed.

Just small sticks dropped down the chimney will boil lots of water quick, even paper will do it.

We roughed it for a few days hunting deer in Scotland and that is all we used to boil water.

Ouch, a bit proud of those things aren't they? I guess I'd just have to stick with starting a fire in an old coffee tin and cooking on top of that.

Hmmmmm,... you're a slow learner, hey Terry? :D

I stopped that kinda stuff after #2. :D

Now,... I told my lady I would have to think hard about ever getting married again. Told her to give me a little time to think about doing it again. Just had our 15th anniversary together,.... I guess I should start thinking a little harder. Maybe next year,... maybe,... never know,.... been kinda busy lately. Don't want to rush into anything.

I have several of these type stoves. I use small alcohol stove for most of my trail hiking and hunting stoves. I have a hobo stove that i have as a back up that burns everything. It is amazing how effective than can be. I have used it for tea, soups, freeze dried food rehydration. Never for coffee. Never had a cup.

Kelly Kettles work really well with small sticks or paper.
A guy at the range used one for making tea, till he tried burning plastic in it!

As an aside, he's still married to the original - be 59 years in April, 2010.

Man, what a cool saying! I think I will remember that one. My "starter wife" cheated, then left instead of facing the music. Maybe I will marry again one day.
