DRAT! Bad .405 ad - UPDATE I bought one!

Post by crs »

:D Thanks to the great guys on this forum, there were three leads on takedown .405 Winchester 1895s. I stumbled into a good deal and mine is being shipped now. :D Here is the text from the sellers description:
===========================================
I got just the thing! i have had it for about 3 years, sits in the safe mostly. it has a receiver site and a Limbsaver recoil pad. I have put about 50 rounds through it, its fun to shoot and does a real number on pumpkin at 100 yards. But I am really a hand gunner and have other wants. i have a set of dies and about 5 boxes of Hornady ammo too.
=============================================
:D :D :D IT will all be here next week and then pictures, followed by range report! :D :D THANKS GUYS!

Back from a trip and perusing the current/new Gun Digest Mag., I spied a CDNN ad for Winchester/Miroku 1895 .405 take down - just what I have been looking for.
I called to put my name on one and learned that this is an old ad that should not have run. The man with whom I spoke said that he could have sold a dozen this week if they had them in stock. I asked him if CDNN would have Miroku make another run on these 1895s and he was not aware of any such order from any wholesaler, so I guess I will just keep looking for a good price on a used one or a safe queen.
DRAT again!

I wish they would make another batch of 405s.I think a 100 year model would be awesome for the Teddy Roosevelt Safari that made it famous.I was suprised that they didnt make a teddy Roosevelt model.

Last time I was snooping around galleryofguns.com, they had a few of those at Davidsons. Also Buffalo arms claims to have some.

Nath;
I was hunting and will load pics and comments tomorrow. Since returning, I have been busy as a cat in a sandbox.

Also, thanks to you guys for the tips on a new takedown .405. As soon as I finish some MUST DO WORK tasks tomorrow morning, I will make calls.

I bought one of the Winchester/Miroku '95s about a year and a half ago. It is a nice weapon, and very pretty as well. Mine has the color cased receiver and really nice wood on it. It will shoot 1.5" off the bench at 100yards using the Hornady .405 flat point round. For me, that's plenty good. I can't say enough good things about this rifle. Definitely buy one if you can!

Dave;
Great photos of the watermelon! How did you get that one blowing up?
I may have to buy a watermelon to bust, because the Halloween pumpkins are getting too soft to explode.

crs,

Watermelon was shot at about 30 yards with a Hornady flat point factory load.

Video of the shoot at 30fps digital.
Then viewed frame by frame in photoshop.
"Grabbed" the frames that I wanted.
It's really easy when you get the hang of it.

You will love your .405....
