OT -- Prayers for Kathe Update.

Post by Buck Elliott »

Thank you all so much!

What a week it has been... Charge nurse tweaked her meds. had her so far under, she was swelling up ( edema) inside & out ,and it would have taken a lot longer for her to come out of the drug-induced coma. Her new nurse (who is also her best friend & next door neighbor) raised a stink about it, and got her on a reasonable regimen of drugs. Dr. started to cut back on the dosage yesterday (Sat) and they're bringing her out of it very slowly. Now her new routine is to cry for a bit, then puke, then rest, then cry, then....... they had to loosen most of the restraints, and brought her to a semi-sitting position, to prevent aspiration.

I have often wondered just how much the subconscious and unconscious mind perceive regarding a patient's condition and/or surroundings, when they start coming out of it. Drs say it will be at least a week (up to 2 Wks) before she is fully conscious and cognisant. She may be a little unstable for as much as a month.....

My friends --- I really and TRULY appreciate all who have prayed, meditated, contributed in any way to ask the Lord to step in and make her well and whole again. Your reward awaits, of that I am certain.

Prayers are still needed -- She is not yet out of the woods with this thing.

Thanks again
Regards

Buck

Prayers for sure, Buck. Either my alzheimer's is kicking in or I missed this when it was first posted. Dang, rough road. Really sorry to hear that.

Prayers sent. That Nurse/Neighbor/Friend sounds like one of the answers to prayer. Not to put anyone down, but there are times when one medical professional seems blind to the patient and another comes in and straightens things out. It happens. The medication regimen for your wife sounds like it is closer to right.

THEY HEAR AND UNDERSTAND QUITE A BIT...!

I won't go into details or examples, but I've personally seen numerous instances where they not only heard and understood what people were saying in the room with them (apparently comatose), or during SURGERY even (there are many 'degrees' of anesthesia), but IT SOMETIMES HAS A PROFOUND EFFECT ON THEM.

ALWAYS say things in a patient's presence as if they can hear you; encouraging and hopeful words DO help, and doom-saying DOES sometimes cause them to 'give up'.

Glad she's doing better.

OH MY GOODNESS, BUCK, I MUSTA MISSED SOMETHING AS I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT THIS BEFORE. OUR PRAYER IS WITH THE LADY THIS MORNING AND WE PUT HER ON OUR PRAYER LIST.
AND YES, IN MY EXPERIENCES FROM EVADING THE GRIM REAPER FOUR TIMES IN THE PAST TEN YEARS, I DID KNOW WHAT WAS GOING WHEN SEDATED, WHO WAS TALKING, WHO WAS IN THE ROOM, AND HOW WONDERFUL THE HALLUCINATIONS WERE UNDER MORPHINE !!!

My heartfelt thanks to all of you --- my friends and brothers -- who take time & effort to plead to the Lord for someone you have never met. I appreciate it more than I can tell you. Kat's road to full recovery may be a long one, and not without complications. She still has 1:1, 24/7 care, now by a dedicated team, so chances of slip-ups are greatly minimized. Once she reagins full cognizance, she will be weaned slowly off the trache tube & ventilator. She continues to fight her way up out of the darkness, and responds to the presence of her caregivers. They keep her loosely restrained, so she won't pull tubes & such, and she managed to slap her friend/nurse this morning... Considered a good sign by all...

So brothers, thanks again for your wonderful support. your prayers are felt, believe me.

Booger Bill, sorry (or happy...) that my Kat is not the same gal as your wife's friend. Hope & pray all is well with her.
Regards
