"Buck"s new sights

Post by O.S.O.K. »

OK, got the new sights and after a little surgery on the front sight's mounting hole (was quite small for some reason and didn't come with a screw...) I installed them on Buck (NEF 500 S&W Mag).

Looks like the rear sight will be able to adjust down far enough/front sight is tall enough - just judging by the bore-sight picture.

Anyhoo, here's the obligatory pics:

The camera shows every gory deatail of the front sight - but the marks are'nt very noticable in reality. I filed down the "pushout" and cold blued. It fits well and is very snug, and is not plastic, so I'm happy with it.

Hopefully, this will be sighted within the adjustment range of the rear sight... time will tell.

That rifle looks like a stone cold killer now! Good choice in slings by the way.

Thanks - and yeah, the Montana slings are my favorite.

Junior used a WGRS on his H&R .45-70. He is pretty happy with it, I think you will be, too.

Tell, us, how did you come to decide on this height front sight?
Sincerely,

Hobie

I must admit, I just ordered the only front sight for the NEF that Brownells listed. I know there's a "shorty" front sight ramp that I can get too that will allow the use of any dovetail sight I choose, but I thought I'd just give this a try first -$5. I think it's tall enough as when I look through the bore and center an aiming point, the sights fall below the aiming point - which is what I wanted to see :)

Nice work!

Now all you need is a S&W 500 for a matching caliber sidearm to go along with it,... and to pull your pants down on one side while you walk with a hitch in your giddy-up,... like Festus on Gunsmoke!!!

 8)

I am not at all interested in a 500 S&W revolver or walkin with a hitch unless I have too ;)

Jac - I'm hopin' you'll be doing more walking with that puppy, than firing, or you'll have a hitch all right. :P :P :P

Not being one to leave well enough alone, I decided to inlay one of the NRA game species coins that I have:

Turned out OK - conveniently, the burr'd spot is covered by the recoil pad :D

It's almost a silk purse now

I also loaded up some more ammo for it - using the 350 Berry's bullets - a couple of the Power Pistol loads again and a couple of H110 loads - 1800-1950 fps range.

Hopefully the sights will stay intact after the next range session!
