A Few Custom Ruger 96/22's
I know there's a few levergunners, that might be interested in this conversion.
A fella, over on rimfirecentral, experimented and found out that the Ruger 96/22 receiver is the same size as the Ruger 10/22 MAGNUM's - and so did a little action side inletting, pistol grip "adjusting", etc to a Boyd's 10/22 Mag lamo stock.
Here's a second one;

That Looks like a fluted barrel with a suppressor on it as well.

To quote the owner/builder:
"The barrel is a Tactical Solutions fluted, threaded, 10/22 barrel. I had to cut an extra extractor cut in the barrel so that it would work in the 96. The scope rail is from Weaver. One other interesting thing is that the takedown/action screw on the 96 is shorter than the 10/22 so you'll need the longer 10/22 screw."

I've read about the extractor-cut mod. Allows you to take any 9622 and turn it into a 9617 if you want to... (ditto the 96/22M and the 17M versions...)Pete44ru wrote:To quote the owner/builder:

Yep, like I always hear folks sayin' - those Ruger leverguns are just plain UGLY...
(...but of course the old Savage 99's they resemble are "classics"... )

The curve of the pistol grip needs a little modifying also.

Re: A Few Custom Ruger 96/22's
I saw this thread over at RFC last week. It was the first time I heard anything about the 4 cartridge conversions they were doing with the 96's (one gun, 17M2, .22LR, .22mag, and HMR barrels). While I'd just rather buy/own multiple guns the idea does have an appeal.
As for the projects the guy did I rate them as top notch. I personally have no interest in a bull barreled lever gun but I bet that thing can shoot. If I buy a .22mag a 96 is gonna get a serious look.

Re: A Few Custom Ruger 96/22's
Speaking of modifying the Ruger leverguns, I'd love to see them make the 96 in .45 Colt or .357 Mag, since they make the .44 Mag, it shouldn't be that hard. Of course a .327 Fed Mag would be a nice little number (yeah I know .32-20 is more historic, but I like straight cases better, and thicker brass, plus it would go nicely with their .327 Mag revolver).L_Kilkenny wrote:I saw this thread over at RFC last week. Of course, Ruger doesn't seem to have a reason to make any leveraction rifles now or a 44 mag autoloader.AJMD429 wrote:Speaking of modifying the Ruger leverguns, I'd love to see them make the 96 in .45 Colt or .357 Mag, since they make the .44 Mag, it shouldn't be that hard.
