OT Pulled from work

Post by Goat »

Went to the doctor yesterday and was pulled from work. I am the foreman at our local Water District were we provide the potable water for about twelve thousand people. My job is a lot less physical than some of my former occupations but has been more so this year. I have been on light duty for five weeks because of shearing on the muscles in my lower left abdominal wall and a "bulge" that no one wants to call a hernia. I have some pulled/torn tissues were they attatch to the pubic bone as well. All I know is that it has been very painful and is not getting any better. I have had a ten pound weight limit for the past five weeks while on light duty. One of the worst parts of this has been not being able to pick up my children, ages five and four. They have been very understanding and protective of their daddy though. Katie will often say when we are walking somewhere,"Daddy, I'll just hold your hand since you can't carry me." She is such a sweetheart.
The good news is that the surgeon does not want to cut me until he does further research into this type of injury and look at all the options. I have plenty of sick leave at work and will be on workers compensation until this is resolved. I am just ready for the pain to go away and I can go back to work. I appreciate all prayers for the quick resolution of this matter. Another plus is that for a while I will get to spend more time here and play with my Marlins in the living room. Thanks for your prayers.

Goat, hang in there. I believe God sends us these trials, sometimes to humble us, but always out of love -- to strengthen us, to slow us down so we can appreciate our blessings, to further bless us and just generally to beautify us in ways that good times never could. You are in my prayers, and I have faith that the results of this will be good.

Prayes you'll heal all on your own and no surgery. But, if surgeries called for don't wait. It usually just makes the healing process longer as well as the pain being extended.

Goat, get a second opinion. It sure sounds like a hernia to me. I got one at a young age. The combination of lifting engines out of car bodies without a hoist (two guys and a chain) along with other very strenuous activities, caused a very painful bulge in the same spot as yours. It finally tore it one day when lifting a transmission on a swather up after a friend got his hand wedged between it and the frame during an install. That hurt and I could no longer ignore it. The doctors cut me open and fixed it. I built the muscle up around it and went back to being stupid. They don't heal themselves and must be fixed. The sooner the better. Get a second opinion.

Oh, a quick test to help determine if it's a hernia or not - if when lifting anything using the same movement one would use doing a single bar bicep curl hurts the bulging spot, it's probably a hernia.
