It's a 30-06. Shooting a 165 grain Nosler solid base, ballistic tip. He killed both the buck and a doe the first day of our (Oklahoma) gun season. He did the same thing the first day of the youth hunt. I keep reminding him he only has 2 does left for archery. 6 deer limit here which includes only 2 bucks a year.

This young man, (16) has always used a .243 bolt gun but is one of the 12 grandchildren I am buying BLRs for. I have 11 of them now, (I think). There are only 2 girls but they will probably want the same thing as the boys.

The I.T. is for Indian Territory which until statehood was east of I-35, sorta. The rest was Oklahoma Territory, sorta. We are in the Cherokee Nation, of which most of my grandchildren are citizens.

No! I'm not adopting any more. One of my sons is adopted. Come to think of it, this young hunter is his son. Not something I even realize or dwell on.

Great looking buck!! please congratulate him for me. I am eating tag souop this year, partly my fault I really didn't hunt too hard this year. Low population due to hard winters and coyotes and family issues (death in the family sort of takes the gumption out of a fella).
Tell him to have a steak on me and maybe we can hunt together sometime, I know I would enjoy it.(maybe he would too)

With that 30-06, he really doesn't need another rifle until he goes to Africa !!

Beware the man with only one gun.....he knows how to use it !

Very nice!
I Remember my first Real buck also taken with the then new Nosler BT it was the Fall of 84. A nice fat western 4 count Mule Deer. Also a 165gr, but for me in a .308.
I will never forget the first deer that had some head gear on it.
Ah heck I remember my first deer a Doe when I was 14 seems like yesterday!
It's so good to see a young hunter with a deer!
