OT: Ruger M77 RSI Mannlicher full stock to standard stock...

Post by kaschi »

If a you take a Ruger M77 MkII RSI Mannlicher full stocked rifle and want to put a standard stock on it, will it work? I'm looking at one in an interesting caliber but do not care for the looks of the RSI. Thanks.

I THINK it will work just fine. Barrel might be a bit thinner on the RSI

Ruger did pretty much the same thing, when they made the Ultralite (M77UL) - -the one with the pencil barrel (either with or w/o sights) and slim stock w/black forend tip.

If a standard M77 stock is used, the barrel channel will exhibit gaposis, due to the different barrel tapers/contours.

Is it a tang safety or Mark II? Short or long action?

Do you have a stock lined up yet? The International stock may be good for trade.

Like I said in my original post it is a MK II but I did fail to say that it is a short action. The rifle is at a gun shop about 30 miles from me where a friend saw it and told me.

I'm sending an email to Ruger just to hear what they say about compatible stocks. Normally, I don't contact manufacturers because shooters in the real world usually give better advice than phone attendants at large companies. I'll let you know what they say. They promise a response within 3 days. We'll see.

I am looking for that gun! in 250 Savage I had one in my hands once!
I know a OT post and no help at all to the op.
But now to the OP why change it? the full stock is kinda nice, here is a tip bed it with a strip of silicon down the barrel chanel.

I'd change it because I don't think the full stock "is kind of nice". I think it looks like a porch pillar...but that's just my opinion!

I personally like the full stocks, would love to run across a model 70 LW carbine with a full stock, and yep 257 robts. would do just fine

C'mon kaschi...a porch pillar?

I have an 18", severely bubba'd, Savage No4 that I want to restock with the Mannlicher style forend. I think that they look best on short barreled rifles.

My heart is with lever actions but other guns interest me too. IF I break down and buy the Ruger discussed here, I'll offer the stock for sale here at levergun.com first! :)

True some hate them some like them, like I hate 95 Wins ( just my opinion)Think they are ugly. I say change it to how you like the rifle to look nothing can't be done.

I think the Manlicher style stocks are nice but my son doesn't. It's a personal thing. That's why they make both kinds. A guy that owns a gunshop near me owns a 77 RSI in .257 Roberts that I would have tried to talk him out of already if it weren't for the fact that it's in stainless.

I think I'll be getting a CZ full stock before long.

Stainless RSI? Does it have a laminated or walnut stock? The only Stainless full stocked Rugers that I've seen were 10/22 Internationals at Wal-Mart in '94 or '95. Which I regret not getting when I had the opportunity.

I have a RSI in .308 with the tang safety and it is my goto gun when I go hunting. I am very confident with it out to 300 yds. I think it looks real good too. At a distance all the 'standard' stocks start to look the same. You can pick mine out of a crowd.
