OK guys got a winchester 1886 short barreled parts rifle............I want to mount a scope mount on it but want to utilize the dovetail slot in the barrel..................I know XS makes a scout mount that may work..................but do you guys know of any mounts that will use a dovetail slot mount? I don't mind drilling one or two holes in the barrel but really want to use that dovetail slot...........
also any thoughts on a fastfire type sight for the mount..........I'm an old codger and my eyes aren't what they used to be and I want a close in system on my 50-110.
last question, does anyone make a fiberglass stock for the 1886?
Really need some insite on the mounts and what is out there

Mike,
This looks a little too compact, but I thought that I'd show you, anyway:

AFAIK, The XS LeverScout mount/rail for the Winchester 94 should work on any 86 with the rear sight dovetail about 4" from the front of the receiver.

I can attest to the fact that the XS mount can easily handle everything the .450 Marlin can dish out in a 7lb Winchester M94 Timber.

Mike8623,
86er has a Miroku/Winchester 1886 EL and he has a neat sight set up for it that has been discussed here before. If I remember correctly, he installed a Leupold quick release scope mount and a receiver sight mount so he could switch when appropriate or needed. You might try a search with 86er as auther and subject with scope ? Good luck.
