OT- Turn my 10/22 into a M1 Carbine?
I've always wanted a M1 Carbine but could never find one I could afford, and the ammo situation here in the islands is a minus. I recently found out about a kit that turns a Ruger 10/22 into a reasonable fact simile of a M1 for a tad over $100. Wouldn't have to be constantly marking where fired brass fell for later recovery for reloading either. What do you guys think?

Well, to be honest I like it a lot. It looks much better than a stock 10-22 that's for sure.
Put a 30 round mag in it and it would really look the part.

I've seen a couple in person and they aren't bad. I thought about getting one of those kits when I had a 10/22 but other things kept jumping ahead of it on the projects list.

Guess what's coming out in May? Looks like there are two versions, one with a black synthetic stock for $235, and one with a wooden stock for $295.

I'd rather have the one built on the 10/22 action... it's tried and true.

Yep, they're for their new SR-22 as well as their 10/22. You can see a video of them HERE.Terry Murbach wrote:NOT TO EVEN MENTION THAT JUST TODAY RUGER ANNOUNCED 25 ROUNDS 10/22 MAGAZINES OF THEIR OWN MANUFACTURE.
I've already got two 10/22s and a NPM M1 Carbine so if I were to choose one, I'd go with the wood stock Citadel if initial reports prove positive.

Fixed it for ya. I haven't bought a new Ruger, and only a couple of old ones, since the betrayal.
But on to the thread...I like both the 10/22 kit and the carbine .22. I would prob go with the 10/22 kit.

I've got two 10-22s already, so I don't NEED one, but that M-1 lookalike is slick!
Oh, Ruger's new mag ain't gonna help me any. I could go to jail for possession of one in PRNY. We can't have the Charger pistol either (all semi auto pistols must have mag through the grip feed in NY)

Re: OT- Turn my 10/22 into a M1 Carbine?
I'm not looking for a fight, honest. I like my old 10/22 just as it is. I put a WGRS peep on it in the early 70's and refinished the walnut carbine stock with Truoil (yes they came stock with walnut a long time ago) and have loved its performance ever since. I originally bought it because it looked like a M1 Carbine.
I even like the old fashion 10 round mag, I carry two with me. I remember thinking how dandy it was to finally have a 22 with a 10 shot mag that fit inside the stock so I could wrap my hand around the receiver! I really am becoming an old geezer!!

I understand how you feel about 10/22s. I got two for my wife and I in 1973 shortly after we got married and both have real walnut stocks. My wife's even has a manufacturing defect; the 'R' in Ruger is double stamped just like the Rolls Royce symbol so that one's been kept pristine and still looks NIB (yes, I kept the boxes and all the paperwork including the bill of sale). BTW, because I got two at the same time, Shillings and Sons Gun Store in San Jose, California only charged me $59 each including tax.Canuck Bob wrote:I'm not looking for a fight, honest. I already got a 10/22 with Volquartsen improvement parts so economically the Eabco kit better for me.
That Italian M1 Carbine .22 sure looks purdy though. I wonder how reliable they are, and parts availability is like. The price sure is reasonable, thanks for the info.

Tried to post this reply last night, but my internet crashed!
I'd jump on it for $100! Sounds like you've found a deal at that price. They also make a kit to convert the 10/22 into a Thompson look-alike. Both are appealing to me - just to be able to shoot cheap .22 LR's to my heart's content.
'bout time Ruger made their own 25-rounder for the 10/22!
Ol' Bill is certainly spinning in his grave, now that Ruger makes their own version of the AR-15 - a gun he thought no civilian had a need for!

Re: OT- Turn my 10/22 into a M1 Carbine?
When the AWB of 1994 was being put together before it was rammed down our throats, Bill Ruger supported the 10rd mag limit to avoid having his own products banned. I was never a Mini-14 fan but I seem to recall hearing that even before then, the folding stocks and high cap mags were LEO only from Ruger.Bullard4075 wrote: Betrayal, Treachery ???????????? Many shooters swore off new Rugers after that (much like many swore off new S&Ws after their HUD agreement).

A little pricy I thought, found a couple of sites, but all about the same price.

My Glenfield Model 70 with some Tech sights and a upper handguard from a Marlin 99M1 was a fun, easy adaptation.

For that matter, I remember seeing a MG-42 conversion kit for the 10/22 a few years back!

I used to have a Ruger 10/22 and an erma M1- both were reminiscent of the M1 carbine. You are lucky to be able to own them. Enjoy.
