Old win 94 38-55

Post by wsmrto »

What is the significance of an old win 94 [RIFLE] in 38-55 with an old but 98% blue, New Haven Factory replacement barrel also 26" , half round, half octagon with the roll mark 38-55 "One of one thousand"?

IMHO, it has no special significance - since it looks to be a surplus/parts modern (pre-94AE/1983) Winchester 94 commemorative barrel installed on an older Model 94 receiver.

It oughta make a neat shooter/hunter, though.

S# of the 94 is 64119 so it is very early. Is the rebarrel from 1983 Legacy series a complete chop to any collectability of this nice old rifle? Even though the rest is very nice with rcvr turning a nice patina, the stock looks still original and mag tube still has most of the original blue?

Although it has no collector interest, it should be a great shooter, that is, if the bore is still bright and clean. If the bore is bad it is just a wall hanger.

Rifle doesn't look fired since it was rebarreled.

If you bought it as some kind of "collector" piece or potential safe-queen, I hope you didn't spend a fortune... ...but if you did, chalk it up to a lesson-learned.

Otherwise, I'd just be thankful for owning a really nice-sounding gun that should be a fun AND practical shooter, because it is a LEVERGUN, in a 'classic' chambering, has enough power and range for 99% of non-fanged hunting, yet is not one of the new BTHP-shooting super-short belted wonder-magnums that will cost a dollar per trigger pull.
