OT SKULL BLEACHING
There has been some talk here from time to time about people wanting to do European mounts. I came across this in my latest catalog from 3 Rivers Archery.

These are great people to deal with and have always answered any stupid question I had for them.

Interesting. Thanks for posting.
Re: OT SKULL BLEACHING
there are easier ways. i've been doing quite of bit of this the past few years.
2 methods i use are:
trimming the skull meat as much as possible , scrambling the brain tissue with a coat hanger and soaking in 30% H202 ( clairol peroxide from beauty supply) changing out the old stuff a few times a day.
clean with water, dry then soak in new H202 and let dry in the bright sun.
the other way is actually simpler.
get one of the good repro skulls, use a dremel to finish the skull to taste, cut the anters off and mount with epoxy in the repro pedicals and walla...
a mount that is perfect, with out the smell.

Find a source for dermestid beetles. They eat everything to the bone and leave you with a clean skull to mount.
Re: OT SKULL BLEACHING
I've done the beetles.
the smell and upkeep were more than i was willing to deal with.
I do have another set up now to try them again, though.

Re: OT SKULL BLEACHING
I had my daughter's first buck done in a european mount. Sent it off to a place with beetles, $75 and no smell or mess to deal with. Once I got it back it was mounted on a plaque.

Re: OT SKULL BLEACHING
I've never done it with a deer/elk skull but have take bulls heads out into the woods and let the yellow jackets and ants take care of business. The only problem was someone locating and "liberating" the project before I got to it!
