What rear sight did McQueen use in Tom Horn?

Post by Rube Burrows »

Looking for some info on the rear sight that Steve McQueen used on his 1876 rifle in the movie Tom Horn.
I have always liked this movie and upon watching it again on netflix the other night I got to wondering what kind of sight that was. It slides on and off easily. Is it any good?

Here is a pic in case you dont remember or never seen the movie.

The set up seen on the Tom Horn (movie) 1876 is a bit of a mystery. It seems to be unique to the rifle used in the movie. It consists of a block that slides into a dovetail on the tang. Good shot of it towards the end of this clip:

Kinda looks like a Lyman with a large aperture, that Hollywood mounted on a "custom" base.

I'd agree. I'd think the block would put the sight too tall, but it doesn't appear that way.
