OT - Colt Commander My 1st Pic

Post by damienph »

Trying out this picture posting thing...Image

The white "wispy" looking marks on the slide are reflections of clouds overhead. Picture is from my phone so the quality is pretty poor.

And yes, I do have the original "Coltwood" grips, they are stored away in the box for safekeeping.

Image

And of course a levergun picture; the BL 22 that I refinished earlier this year, currently residing with my nephew.

My other 1911s; clockwise from top left, Stainless Series 80 Gov't Model, Commander, SA GI, and my old Kimber Custom. All 45ACP, of course.

I like that Commander. I had a real early Lightweight that I should have hung on to.

damienph,
Nice Commander. I've shot a few, but never owned one.

Jason,
No fair bragging. I'm without a 1911 at this time  and that's just not fair.

Jason, I NEED a 10mm Delta Elite. With the comp on yours, I bet that would be a great bowling pin shooter. My Commander is a 1954, my birth year.

Joe, if we were close enough, you could certainly shoot mine.

Damienph, nice 1911's. You must have some big hands. One of the reasons I carry and shoot a 1911 is because I have small hands. Thick, but small.

Nice Commander, my favorite for carry bar none. Older ones like that are getting harder to come by. If it shoots good, don't let it get away from you.

Don't change it, it's perfect just like it is, for CCW, unless you are left handed, then you might want an ambi-safety, but really that is all it would need for me to be happy, as long as it was reliable.

It is a good shooter, I am right handed, and it is the last handgun that I would turn loose of it it ever came to that.

Lookin' GOOD! I have owned and carried Commanders since the 1960s. One is a blue .38 Super and the other a satin .45. :)

Well, the upside to that is there are not many firearms that I have any trouble reaching the fire controls without repositioning my grip. Safeties, slide stops/releases, mag releases...

Yeah, on mag changes I have to twist the piece in my strong hand for my thumb to reach the release. Small price to pay. I have to do that with all mid to large sized pistols, not just 1911's. I do it without even thinking about it anymore.
