Funny commercial.
Notice the truck is a diesel, which we cant buy here in the US because our masters know what's best for us.

I would never give up my American made ford diesel truck for a Toyota but the add was funny.

Cool commercial.

The Hilux is a bit overated. We did, some where I work at and was not really that impressed.
I do like the commercial, we need commercials like the NZ ers get way better advertisments down there.

Remember the one from several years back when the bulls stole the farmer's Hilux? It was a doozy.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

My cousin on the North Is., had an older one he used around his deer "ranch" when I visited in 2000. I was pretty impressed, but for our highways? Nope; good torque for low-end grunt, but not enough horsepower for our feeways. Remember, like Canada, they have a 100kph speed limit for their what, 300 miles of freeways.
But, yes, their commercials are sometimes better'n ours.

The Toyota adds are pretty good. The best ones are the older ones with Barry Crump the old bushman giving a city slicker a 'lift'....

Re: Toyota HiLux commercial from New Zealand
how much horsepower do they have? i'm guessing more than takoma, and that would be enough for me. I have 170K on my 2007 and I would definately buy another toyota once I wear this one out. I'm thinking I might take a while to do so now that my driving has tapered off under 30k/year.

Mike, I'm interested to hear about your Tacoma. Generally, how has it held up and have there been any issues other than regular maintenance?rjohns94 wrote:how much horsepower do they have? i'm guessing more than takoma, and that would be enough for me. Earlier this month The Boy got a 2001 standard cab with 57K on the clock (I'm not kidding! ). It's the base 4cyl/5spd with the SR5 package (whatever that is). Chevy is supposed to be ending production of the Colorado (my preferred current production truck) and what I have seen as rumored replacements do not interest me. Even though I hope it will be many years before it's time to replace the 'rado, I have the Ranger and Taco on the short list of replacements.
I figure if it will hold up under the normal use a 20 y/o will put it through it should be durn near immortal but it's nice to hear from regular drivers as well.

If marketers are going to do the reducto ad absurdum thing, I prefer they at least do it with humor.
Nissan commercials here are awful - the airliner landing in the truck bed, etc.
Maybe that is exactly what Toyota is poking fun at.
