Tagged out, but not with a levergun

Post by pharmseller »

This was a good deer season for us!
I got to hunt with my dad and brother and we all got bucks the same day.
Nothing huge, but good, decent bucks.

We were hunting the same drainage, spaced about 300 yards apart, glassing.
My dad shot first, and killed a good forkie. The shot made a 3 point stand up to look around. Unfortunately for him, he was right in front of my brother. The 4 point/fork who was a little to his south ran in front of me and made it onto the meat pole.

We each heard the other's shot and communicated via radio. The drag to the ridgetop was, well, a drag, but with three of us it was a lot easier than going solo.
We used the buck cart for the half mile that was level and loaded up the truck. We notched our tags at the kill site, then tagged the deer at the truck, since we didn't want to tear up the tags during the drag.
Happines is a full meat pole.

Good job! Getting your buck is great. Getting your buck along with your Dad and brother. Priceless.

Nice going!! I'm off next week to try and find a deer. 2 different zone, 1 rifle buck only and the other is muzzle loader anything goes.

My airgun.

Kidding, I remember your posts about shooting a fox and had to give you a hard time!

I was using a scoped bolt action .30-06. The shot was a bit over 200 yards. All three deer fell to my handloads - 180 grain Nosler Partitions over 59.0 grains of Ramshot Hunter, CCI 200 primers and new Remington brass. Dad and brother like free ammo, what can I say.
