It was a beautiful sunny 76 degrees here in Texas yeaterday afternoon, so my son and two of his buddies joined me at the Krodle Kountry range for some rifle and pistol plinking from up close out to 100 yards.
When we finished and were about ready to depart, I offerred to let them shoot a few rounds of 300 grain factory ammo through my Winchester 1895 .405. None had fired it before and all were interested, so we set up a paper target frame and two targets, each with a two inch square around the center bullseye. After we backed off to 25 yards to shoot offhand and I instructed them how to use the receiver peep sight with the gold bead, each dry fired the rifle with the hammer block safety on. Each then fired two rounds with good results:
All three first shots went into the two inch square and one of the second shots did too,
All marvelled at how there was less recoil than expected,
All commented on how much fun the rifle was to shoot,
All commented on the good balance and ease of handling of the 1895,
Two stated that their next rifle will be a lever action!
None are afraid of big bore rifles and want to shoot more.
I rate this to a fine way to conclude a plinking session.

Ricky,
Sorry you had to work, but your brother did come by. He and his grand daughter were driving their red two-steeringwheel IH Farmall tractor with the two pink seats . What a cool ride! I suggested they
come over and drive it in the Audie Murphy Day parade in Farmersville this summer.
We had a nice visit before they drove on around the field.
