Win 92 stock on a Rossi 92

Post by Thunder50 »

Just wondering how close the stocks are. Would like to put a shotgun style buttstock on my rifle, instead of the crescent buttplate style it has now. Thanks

I doubt they'd be interchangeable.
I have both 92s, they're not quite identical in execution.

According to Precision, they are different - enough so they sell Rossi-specific stocks...But, seems to me I've heard of folks "making" them fit.

Win 92 buttstocks can be made to work on the Rossi. It does require some fitting but if you start with semi-inletted wood it won't be that much difference.

On a side note. The rossi rifle forewood is about an 1" longer than Win forewood.

Some of them are pretty darn close. A year or so ago, while sitting around chatting with my gunsmith buddy, this topic came up. He had a somewhat used 94 buttstock he was going to replace on a post 64 94. Out in my car, I had my EMF Hartford 92 rifle. "let's find out--bring your gun in and let's see." It turned out that the 94 stock fit on pretty good--the wood a little proud here and there, but I figured that in this particular instance at least it could be done with minimum effort. This was all during casual conversation, not to convert my own rifle. We didn't get into it far enough to mess around with forearms, either. My rifle was octagon, full-length. The forearm thing would for sure get more involved, and not to be tried just for the sake of a brief conversation.
