Gunsmith for Lightening and trimming barrels

Post by 3leggedturtle »

Where can I send a single shot rifle barrel to be shortened and tapered down. Its a .17Mach2 Handi bull barrel. The barrel weighs about 8lbs by itself. Who does this type of work?
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

I would think our own Mr. Taylor would be the man you want.

It isn't a difficult job and any respectable gunsmith (not a scope installer) should be able to do it. Have you checked locally?

EDIT: I guess I should clarify my statement regarding scope installers. I do appreciate the work involved in mounting a scope or any sights for that matter properly and the investment in equipment. It is just that over the years I have seen those who own the equipment and do good work but are outside their area of expertise when asked to do much else.

Found a new local smith. The barrel itself weighs 4lbs 3ozs. Told'em if he could get it down to 1lb8oz i would be happy. tho will settle for 2lbs. He quoted me 2weeks and a reasonable cost. So will give update then.

This is one of John Taylor's specialties.
