I'm assuming many here are, but any suggestions will be welcome.

I've about had it with my Uberti Special Sporting 45 colt. I sent an E-mail to Italy this afternoon. I wish they had relpaced the barrel, but their smith in the states said it was up to Uberti's standards. No one that I've ever heard of has one that shoots as bad as mine. I'm trying to buy a new barrel. I talked to Green Mountain today. They never heard of Uberti. Can you belive that? That was their secretrary and a guy who came to the phone when I asked for someone who knew something about guns. He asked if I had done a dealer search on their web site. I said I did. I marked MN then my zip then the biggest search area option of 100 miles. No dealer came up. Well let me see, the nearest dealer is in Washington or Texas. I said you should increase my search area option to 2,000 miles.

Please PM me as to who might fix or replace my barrel. In the meanwhile back to fire lapping.

That place is technically qualified and they fixed my improperly assembled (from the factory) Uberti 1873 under warranty, but they also returned it with a scratch so...

The Uberti 45 I have seen have two big problems either the muzzle is dented where the sight is shoved into place or the bores run as much as 455. A green Mountain barrel from Brownells will cure the problem but it will set you back about $150.00 plus the cost of labor and rebluing say $250.00 or more. Before you give up hope you might check the barrel under the front sight and see if shortening the existing barrel and putting the sight in right wouldn't cure the problem. If the bore is oversize you may be up the creek as in some guns you can't load a big enough bullet to fill the grooves.

I'd be curious to slug that barrel as well. You're probably just spinning your wheels lapping the bore. I don't see that making much difference in an extremely inaccurate weapon. Replacing the barrel isn't a major task. You can probably find a good local gunsmith that could do it cheaper than most of the big name guys.

Pop shot a .455 dia bullet into the barrel, tapped it back. Measured it at .451, then put it in the muzzle, tapped it through and it measured the same. As I tapped it though, it got tight between the rear sight and the forearm. This must be where the dovetail is cut. It's also tight at the chamber mouth. I've been working those spots over with steel wool to get it to open up a bit.
You might be right about the front sight. I can't seem to see a problem. I'd say I have nothing to loose if I cut it off.

I would welcome a Green Mountain barrel. Did you read about my conversation with them? It was a silly talk.

I want it fixed. $400 to $500 is OK. I just love the look of this gun, but it has to shoot right.

Ahlmans in southern Mn is who you want . They have a staff of 7 or 8 gunsmiths. Give them a call , they do quality work. They have a range on site that you can test your gun when they are done.

Maybe try fire lapping? Old Ranger just had some good luck doing that with a B-92 he was having trouble with.
