Paypal bad experience

Post by S.B. »

I just had another bad experience with paypal. They used the right credit card but billed the wrong bank and cost me $50 overdraft? This is the second time something like this has happened the last time it was only a $25 service charge.
I asked if paypal was an American company (because of my problems in communicating with the person who answered the phone) and was told they've been told not to discuss this with customers. So, now my suspicions are they are another off shore banking interest who bend the rules every chance they get?
I called and talked to them about six months ago, and told them we no longer used the account that they billed, this time.

Pay pal is owned by E-bay, which is notoriously anti-firearms.

It is not unusual for large corporations to have overseas customer service/support centers to save money.

My understanding is that PayPal is simply an extension of eBay.

It's a case of one company coming up with another company that works with the first company so customers don't feel uneasy dealing in two realms with the first company.

A bit like Ford Motor Company selling Philco products.

Wonder if PayPal is the bank they keep sending your credit card through. Think about it. Every time they do it, they make the money. Could be a nice sum.
Our bank switched CC companies recently. We paid off and cancled the old one (that was bought up by a bank we don't deal with anymore) and started the new one with a "1st late payment forgiveness" policy. Well when the first bill came on Friday, we sent the check out on Saturday. They claimed they didn't get it till the following Friday. Which happened to be one day over the deadline. Next time would put us in a higher rate and effect our FICA.
We don't use that card anymore.

Close your current paypal account since you can't trust what information is in it. If you want to still use paypal in the future, you will need to open a new account with the correct banking account and credit card info.

I'm pretty sure Paypal used to be a separate company but Ebay bought them out at one point. Since then they raised the fees and closed some loopholes that made Paypal cheap or free to use.

I haven't had any problems but heard of someone who couldn't reverse his Paypal payment because he had a Paypal balance and once you send it, it's gone. The only way you can reverse a payment is when the money is billed to your credit card. That you can fight.

Paypal is rabidly anti-gun, and will seize and hold funds indefinitely for gun related purchases. The have more lawyers than you do. They can do it. The governement is aware of it, but does nothing about it.

If they won't take a postal money order, mailed the next day, I won't bid.

Never used Paypal, never will.

E-Bay----PayPal

Post by HEAD0001 »

I hate the fact that E-Bay and PayPal are anti's the way they are. But I will admit that I do business with them. I am a handicapped person and I supplement my income with my auction's.

I hate to admit it but if you use E-Bay and PatPal properly they actually work very well, and very efficiently.

As far as PayPal is concerned. Any other person who has a PayPal acoount with a balance can send you funds, and the funds are available immediately. I do not know anyone else who can do that. The day in day out interest rate is as high as a 15 month CD I just wrote with a local bank. I also like that fact that when I use my PayPal debit card I receive my 1% back in just a few minutes. Who else does that???

I really do hate the fact that I use them because of their anti gun attitudes. Tom.

You've obviously never tried to get money back from those sorry people. I bought a saddle that turned out to be the wrong size and completely rotten, despite me sending directions on how to measure it, and direct questions about the condition of the saddle. Never could get them to make it right. Took me months to even get them to take it halfway seriously.

Travis I am sure you are right. And to be honest I use PayPal from a Seller's stand point, not the buyer's.

It sound to me like your problem was with the seller??? I did not know PayPal was responsible for a bad seller??? E-bay should be held responsible for the bad seller. I totally agree with that. But I can not see how PayPal was responsible for the seller. Tom.

I shut down my PayPal account a few years ago after an incident that happened to my son in law. He was working at his computer one day when he got an email that a $1200 transaction had just been done on his PayPal account (you get that email for every transaction). Only trouble was, he hadn't done any transactions for a good while. The email comes immediately, before the transaction actually hits the bank & moves the money out of your account. He called his bank to see if he could cancel the transaction from that end, he couldn't. But they did let him transfer money from one account to another by phone, so he moved all but a couple dollars from that checking account to his savings account. The $1200 PayPal transaction hit later that day, but had no effect because there wasn't enough money in the account. If he hadn't happened to be working his computer that morning & seen the email, he would have been out $1200 and not a darn thing he coul have done about it. Apparently somebody got hold of, or figured out, his PayPal passward and went for the grab of $1200. He found out the PayPal recipent account was in Hong Kong (I don't remember how he found that out). That was enough of PayPal for me, I got out & won't go back. If thay won't take a money order, I don't need the merchandise.
My mind reader refuses to charge me..........

I don't like Paypal because they are anti-gun but for some purchases it is a lot less trouble then getting a money order and sending it off and quicker. But I only use a credit card with Paypal and I have never been the seller, so I have not given them a bank account number. That does scare me.

But Money orders scare me a little too, from the buying end of things, because I have lost stuff in the mail on several occasions, even sent stuff in the mail and it was never received on the other end. From the checking I have done, it's a pain in the butt trying to get your money back from a lost money order and slow.

Money transactions on line worry me too much. I use a credit card with the few people I deal with (Midway, Cabela’s etc) only when I can’t find it locally. Good old Government currency’s fine with me !
Keep hearing of corps being hacked for hundreds of thousands of customers account information and something like PayPal sounds like a prime target.

Yep, I like to daal locally also. Shipping costs usually put the price above my budget especially Ebay and other online services. I doubt most sellers on Ebay are gun people and definately don't know guns?
