not a lever but pre 64 /update pictures

Post by ollogger »

Been kinda after this gun for a year & a half ( its a long story ) i borrowed a mold from this guy at that time & finaly
took it back to him the other day, well the old Winchester was the main subject i looked at it again & said well what ya gotta have for the tomato stake, he grinned & said 300.00 I said ok but ya have to treat me right on this 375 lyman mold
and the other stuff i was looking & so he did, the deal was made & it seemed we were both happy
I had visions of a rebarrle job, but it was a sleeper & it cleaned up to nice & shiney, the stock is not original & had the dangest hunk of wood added to the grip & fore end tip you ever saw, so i sawed that off & worked it into something
that at least looks fair. Its got a old Lyman all weather scope on it & its a pre 64 made in 1948 Model 70 Winchester
I took it out shooting Saturday & was well pleased with a 1" group at a 100yd with a starting load & a 90gr. bullet
wish my 38-55 did half that good at 100 ft. pix. later as the wifes thingamajig is on the blink

I think ill call it olugly Oh its a 270

Ollogger, while you're fixing the wife's thingamajig, maybe she'll take a picture of olugly for us. Sounds like you got yourself a very nice deal. Hard to fault a good shootin' 270, even if it does have that funny little side lever thing.

That ain't ugly. Its just personalized a bit by the previous owner. It still has "clean lines"

Hey, BTW, the local gunshop http://www.millersgunshop.com/ just got in a like new Ruger New Vacaro in 45. Its full blue, 5 and 1/2" with some gold leafing on the cylinder. Nice gun for $375. Maybe Boots is interested. Joe Miller is a good friend of mine and will send you a pic if needed. He is closed on Mondays though. The New Vacaro is slimmer than the older Vacaro and its grip hold is similar to the SA Colt or Flattop Rugers. You still have my number if needed-----Sixgun

I might be inclined to shop around for a basic walnut stock for it to un-do the "ugly", but on the other hand --- i get weird about making changes when i have a rifle that shoots pretty well -- dont want to upset the boat i guess

I have a .243 that i have been wanting to convert to .308 for a couple years now (not to bash the 243, i know many have good luck with it -- but i dont) -- but the darn thing keeps making little .75" to 1" cloverleafs , it almost seems a crime to touch it too much

Please send me a picture and yep.. got yer number... and your email so get it to me one way or another.
