Bought myself a new rifle.

Post by gamekeeper »

I decided it was time to treat myself to a new toy, so I ordered a CZ 452 .22 WMR. it's only the standard model with a beech stock but I love it.
Not too many foxes around here, I think Nath has dented the population nationwide... but I sure hope to find at least one.
I've not put many rounds through it yet (severe ammo shortage at the moment) but I tried some Federal 30 grain Speer TNT HP on some windfall apples in the orchard and it turned them into instant cider... :o

Looks Good GK, I think CZ is making some decent Weapons. I have one in 7.62x39. I wish U lived close, I have a bunch of 22WMR that I will probably never shoot. Is that a tease or what.

I have the same rifle with a mannlicher stock. It's becoming one of my favorite little rifles. Super accurate and that
tangent actually works!

Mine likes the heavier bullets, the Winchester 45 gr. Dynapoints are less than an inch at 75 yds.

Nice buy GK! I have one like it with the Manlicher stock too.

FWIW one of the forums I visit deals with CZ's and the folks there claim that the beech wood is the most stable.
I bought my brother in law one in .22 LR. His is the Military trainer.

I used to have a CZ .22 Hornet with a Mannlicher stock till GKJR fell in love with it..we shot a few foxes with mange, we think they may have been trapped in the city and released in the sticks, they behaved funny for country foxes.

JasonB, I'm going to try some heavier bullets, I always used 40GR in my 9422M.

I know those CZ rifles have a reputation for being very accurate and I'd love to have one in 22 WMR.

Now that is a working rifle, great choice. I wish that model came in a lefty!

Its really sad when folks think their mangy nuisance animal is okay to drop on the rural folks!

I know CZ do the 452 American in .22Lr and 17HMR for lefties not seen the European .22WMR though.

CZ has a very good reputation around here.

It's not a lever gun but still very handsome to my view. 22MAG is a keeper!

Why o' why must you tease me this way :)

You have bought wisely our friend.

I have a regular conversation with a freind these days, it goes like this. "I could pretty much do all my shooting, rifle wise with a 22 mag these days" then he just nods and agree's like he does always

It would be a CZ too, when it happens.

Happy for you GK 8)

Nice rifle there, you chose well. My dad shot bunches of foxes in Iowa back in the 50`s.
He started with a .22 mag. He did well with it but preferred a rifle that would anchor them on the spot. And since there was a bounty and fur prices were low he ended up with a .244 Rem. and they seldom escaped its furry after that. :D

Nath , Yes he did. He was in the Navy in WW2.
He trained in England along with a dozen or so other sailors
to handle the floating bridge that was used on the Mine river in Germany during a big invasion.
He was pulled out to be his captains launch operator just before the invasion was to happen. He told me none of those guys came home after the war so I wouldn't have been born had he been there. The invasion was a success though.

He is 89 now and still drives and lives alone in an apartment in Vancouver WA. I see him about once a week.
