Same here; too useful intact.

You'd also have to take the gasket out, and I'd be chicken to 'smoke' any food in them due to the paint and what all else chemicals and preservatives might have been inside them over the years.

That's really clever. I see those boxes pretty beat up sometimes. Wouldn't bother me a bit to convert one.

I use one of those tiny Weber Smokey Joe grills....compact, and ready to use for about 30 bucks....Charcoal, or small pieces of wood.
