Sako Finnwolf .243 A Different Levergun
I bought a Sako Finnwolf a couple weeks ago. I never paid much attention to them as they are more modern than I am really interested in. After a couple of good looks at it, I decided it really is a nice gun and bought it. I just got a scope on it and will take it out this afternoon and see what it will do.

Looks like a Winchester 88, nice looking!
Re: Sako Finnwolf .243 A Different Levergun
I agree - that's a handsome rifle!
Can't wait to hear how it shoots.

I don't think you can go wrong with a Sako.

Probably a fine rifle. 88s in 243 can be tack drivers.

A very nice Finnwolf, Shrapnel! Congratulations on a fine purchase! I look forward to you posting your range results.
Sako Finnwolfs look like Winchester 88s but they are totally different mechanically and very sophisticated inside. Finnwolfs are extremely accurate and shoot as well as any out-of-the-box bolt action hunting rifle. I'm talking less than an inch to cloverleafs at 100 yards! The Finnwolf's downside is parts. Parts are hard to find and expensive. For example, eBay just closed two auctions for 3 and 4 round magazines which sold for $326 and 237.50 respectively! Yes, that's $326 for a mag, but try to find an original one. They also are very difficult to work on and few gunsmiths can. (NOTE: Win 88 mags do not fit the Finnwolf, but I'm told can be modified to fit.)
Two words of caution: 1) Dry firing a Finnwolf is at the risk of breaking the firing pin...always use a snap cap. 2) Finnwolfs are totally addictive!!! Shoot a Finnwolf and you will want to own one; own a Finnwolf and you'll want more. You know the routine!!!!!
Here's a photo of several 4 round Finnwolfs in .243 and .308:

The wind was easily 25 MPH, so I just checked it for Zero and figured that would be good enough for now. It came with Weaver base on it and I couldn't bring myself to use that ugly a set up. I can't find original Sako bases, so I called Leupold up, they sent me 2 dovetail bases and rings so I could get a scope mounted. I did get it to shoot 1 inch high at 100 yards, I will see some day if I can group it, but don't think I will. Sakos shoot well enough, I only bought factory ammo for this gun, so I will just use it for critters...

Suomalainen Winnsu 88!
Nice gun. They didn't sell good on this side of the pond, albeit they have a reputation for good accuracy.

It's just odd enough that I like it! I hope you bag some critters with it.

I had one in 308. Most accurate rifle I ever owned. Shot a lot of caribou with it back in the day.....
Don't loose the magazine; they are harder to come by than a bargain in a Nevada cathouse - or so I am told......

I love those Finnwolfs.A friend had one in 308 that would shoot beside any bolt action rifle.

Sweet rifle! They are the only non open hammer lever I would own, now to just win the lottery!

Nice find! And the wood on that one is beautiful. I am sure it'll shoot close to MOA. What's on the hunting menu for this?

I may try to shoot a Whitetail doe with it. I have so many guns I want to get bloody, it is hard to give them all the attention they need...O.S.O.K. wrote:Nice find! And the wood on that one is beautiful. I am sure it'll shoot close to MOA. What's on the hunting menu for this?
