It arrived at 4:30 this afternoon, now I have the pair of John Wayne Centinnials. Wow! The Custom Grade is even more beautiful than the High Grade. I was lucky to get the matched pair. The English importer only wanted to give me the single rifle (High Grade), but he relented. I think my wife will have to sleep on the Sofa tonight.
Here are the Pics. plus a some of my other Leverguns and assorted treasures.

The "Other than Leverguns": S&W Mod.2000 Schofield .45 Schofield, Uberti Schofield 44-40, Uberti Richard-Masons .45 Schofield, Colt Rood Rifle, Pedersoli Lightning .45 Colt, Pedersoli Sharps 45-90, Shilo Sharps 45-110.

The only things missing are my Armi Sport Spencer 56-50, and I Have an Original Win. 86in 40-65. I loaned them to a friend for a Shoot.
I hope its not too many Pics., but I'm quite proud of my little collection.

The Colt Root is really cool to shoot, its a .44, its made by Armi Sport in Italy. I dont know who the American Importer is or if its sold under the Armi Sport name in the US. I shoot it sometimes in CAS competitions here in Austria. Its not very fast, but every body loves to see it in action. It will shoot about a 6 cm group at 100 meters. If you ever see one I would highly recomend buying it , its loads of fun and after all thats what its all about.

I have to pass along my compliments too. Boy, you are WELL set up!!!!

I'd have to agree with the others, that engraved 1873 Winchester is super pretty. Just has an elegant look to it.

Which one of your Schofields do you like best and could you elaborate on how you rate them in fit, finish, and handling???????

Hi Geoff,
It would be hard to say which Schofield is the best. The S&W is from the fit and finish the best. It has an elegance that could only come from the S&W Custom Shop. Shooting wise there is really no diffrence, both hold excelent groups at 25 meters. The Uberti tends to bind up a little faster with BP than the S&W.
The Actions of both are great but the S&W was out of the box like Silk, the Uberti needed a little polishing and cleaning. Overall I would say the S&W is my favorite not because the Uberti is bad but because the S&W is a S&W.

Now, my curiousity is getting the better of me. How does a guy living in Austria learn the English language better than most of the citizens living in the U.S.A.? When the common language of Austria is German amongst others?

Thanks for your thoughts on the Schofield. I have one of the S&W's just like yours in the wood presentation case. Very nice revolver for sure, the checkering on the hammer on mine is too shallow but maybe I'm too picky!!

I notice that you have several revolvers there (3) that shoot .45 S&W ammo. Do you have a favorite load? I need to start handloading for mine and wondering if you had any suggestions.

Also since you have both, maybe tell me the plusses and minuses of the Pedersoli Sharps versus the Shiloh Sharps. I have a Shiloh on order but that is about 22 months out.

Well, if the truth be known I was born and grew up in Atlanta. I stayed here in Eurpoe after I got out of the Army in 1990.

I think if I tried to sort out the difference between the Pedersoli and the Shilo, it would be much the same as the Schofields. They both shoot great, the Pedersoli has nice wood and the action is smooth, BUT it's not a Shilo. In the end the Shilo would win because it's a Shilo, everything is a little better, trigger pull, action, workmanship ect... If you've got the time and money be patient and wait for the Shilo you'll never regret it.

Thanks for your thoughts on the Shiloh. A lot can change in the 2 years I'll be waiting for my Shiloh so it's good to hear another endorsement that it will be worth it.

Thats cool you living in Austria. My dad fought the Germans all the way from North Africa with the 3ID and ended the war in Salzburg. He spoke GLOWINGLY of Salzburg his whole life probably because it was where he was when FINALLY no one was shooting at him. He credits a bunch of nice citizens there with helping him readjust from combat weariness.

You must have the nicest gun collection in all of Austria!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Grandfather was also here in Austria ( Salzburg and Tirol ) after the war as part of the Occupation Forces. He also spoke very highly of them.
You'd be suprised at what turns up here as far as Old West guns go. I work for one of the largest Dealers in Austria and sometimes I get some amazing stuff in the shop. There were 2 major migrations from Austria to America the first in the 1880's and the second after WWI. The Austrian families living in the States kept very close ties with their families in Austria. There were huge #'s of guns shipped back to the families here in Austria in the late 1800's and early 1900's. I bought an Original 86 Win. in 40-65 for about 400 dollars. Its condition was about 75% orig. There are alot of older people here that have stuff their Grandparents and Great-grandparents sent back. The usual senario is that the Husband dies and the 80 to 90 year old wife doesn't want anything to with the hassels of owning guns here, so they bring them in the shop and say "give me XXX Euros and there yours". I've had Orig. Gahlagers, Smiths, Winchesters, Colts, Lorenz, Enfield's, 77 Sharps, 53 Sharps, Rem. Rollers, Orig. 1860 Army's.
It's impressive to go to some of the CAS shoots here and see the orig. stuff thats running around. I sell about 75% of the Western Guns (repro. and orig.) in Austria, The shooters love being able to buy these Americian Guns from a real live Southerner, and who could complain about getting paid to go to all the CAS events in Austria, Southern Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Slovakia, and The Czech Republic.

We have a great CAS weekend 2nd-4th May in Harringsee(30 km east of Wien).Friday and Saturday are Shootin days and Sunday is for recouperating. There are shooters from Austria, Germany, Poland, Czech Rep., Solvenia, Hungary, Solvakia, Italy. It's a super event.
