Picked up a pair of matching S.D. Myres cuffs for holster.

Post by rangerider7 »

These are nice fully tooled cowboy wrist show cuffs with sterling concho snaps to go with my S.D. Myres Colt SAA holster. I think they look good together, they are a little darker but close. I thought you might want to see them together. RR7

Rangerider - Nice match up. I've got a rookie question for you. Is that style of holster what is called a "Mexican Loop" holster ? - DixieBoy

No DixieBoy, a Mexican loop holster has one, two or three bands of leather cut into the backside so the sewn holster part can be folded and inserted into the loops. The Mexican loop holster is all one piece. This S.D. Myres holster is called a "jock strap" model for obvious reasons. The jock strap piece is separate and sewn or riveted on to make the holster. :) RR7

RR7,

Being a city slicker has it's disadvantages. So here's a question, what were the wrist cuffs purpose?

Really nice RR7! I really like cuffs and always wear a pair while SASS shooting. Heck, I sometimes just wear them around the place here, especially when fixing fence.

J Miller, leather cuffs started out as protection for the wrist while while driving a large team of mules or horses. Cowboys started wearing them to protect their wrist while working with barbed wire, roping and training wild mustangs. Shirt cuffs where easily frayed in the old days because all store bought shirts came with the same length sleeves. Garters and leather cuffs were used to stop them from running down on their hands. Later on they were decorated more and worn for wild west shows and rodeos. Fashion was a factor in wearing leather cuffs also during certain periods of time in the West, it was just according to the cowboy or cowgirl. That's my two cents. :) RR7

Saw Holster much like that one today at a Gun Show. Of course it wasn't a Myres but it was of the jock strap design. Very nice Holster that was suede lined and the tooling was nice, couldn't tell U for sure if it was the same design or not. They might have been trying to copy the Myres. Anyway 45 bucks and I left it there. He will be in Chico in 2 weeks, maybe I will buy it then. All told -if RR has one - I gotta have one.
