Thanks fwiedner!

The bullets arrived in great shape. Kudos sir.

Also a belated thanks for helping me get my stepson a bike in 2009.

He took that bike and rode the dickens out of it. He rode it from 2200' to the top of Mt. Mitchell.

He looked like this:

Image

That first year he started a cycling team for the College of Charleston.

Image

After he graduated in 2011 he started a cycling team to try to go pro.

Image

This summer he won the South Carolina State Road Race. His team medaled in each event.

Image

He had a couple of bad wrecks this season and did not make it pro this season. His sponsors this season (us) have completed their contract and are not renewing. He's waking up fast about what it actually takes to live in the lifestyle he's used to.

Cycling has been good for this young man. He's grown and learned about himself.
Kind regards,
Tycer

I once cycled from Westminster, CA to Earp, CA a distance of 242 miles... I welcomed the car ride home! It's good to chase your dreams!

Has he spent any time on the Asheville "Mellowdrome"?

--- i have held a UCI pro card and spent a small amount of time learning the keirin ropes --- going pro is not all its cracked up to be

--- far better to have a time machine and coach dad and mom to give you some NFL or pro golf skillz ! --- LOL

Had I known what I was getting into, I'd have pitched that tuba in the lake, and taken up heavy equipment....

In 2003 I rode in the BAK (Bike Across Kansas). We started at the Colorado border and in 7 days we rode to the Missouri border, our route was over 450 miles. Anyone who thinks Kansas is flat has never ridden across it on a bicycle.

The land seems to gain elevational changes when you mount a bicycle!

He has no interest in the Mellowdrome, he digs training in the mountains.
I think he understands what pro is and is not.
I'm interested to see how he blends cycling into the life of having to work full time. There's only so many hours in a day. He had a free ride for a year (actually his whole life) - food, lodging, equipment - and it is all on him now. :o It's a real turning point for him. I'm excited to be a part of it. I'm the kind of guy who thinks a child needs to fall on their tail hard, get up, dust off, and prove to themselves they can live on their own before they can become an adult and enter into adult relationships.
Kind regards,
Tycer

I like riding a bike...except for the peddling part. I dislike that, maybe I just need to always ride downhill, M.C. Escher style. 8)

My Son and DIL moved from Brigham City, Utah back to Temple, TX - quite a trip! The "High Point" :!: of the trip was Monarch Pass in CO - 11,312 feet above sea level!
