Marlin 336 219 Zipper

Post by johnly »

I'm still bidding it up, but haven't had the high bid since $909

Looks like a really nice rifle. Any thoughts as to how high I should go?

There was only a total production of about 3000 Marlin Zippers. (going from memory) So, its not like they are all over the place. I can see a real nice 219 going for $1000 or a bit more as most new production guns of any quality approach that figure. This all boils down to my GFO principle-----Go Find One :D

One thing to ask about that Zipper before buying it, is the chamber throat and crown as the micro groove Zippers had a short barrel life. I know, I burned one up after 2K, then bullets started to tumble. I still have another, like new one but only shoot it once every two years or so. Hey!, those short, stiff, and somewhat heavy Zipper barrels are tackdrivers. My earlier one was a moa gun out to 300 meters. If the wind was not blowing too bad, I could bust clay birds out to 500 meters. My newer 1959 Zipper is just as accurate.

Bottom line is, go get it, but don't expect it to be an "all the time" pd gun.

Already shopping for a set of dies. I have a bunch of different forming die sets already, so I should be able to forgo purchasing a set for the 219.

You could get a replacement barrel for several hundred but then the gun has lost its collector value. It would be next to junk and would qualify only as a shooter. That would be about 3 c-notes.

Good for you johnly. Truely one of my all time favorites, 219 Zipper/336.
Whether you got it for collector or shooter or both it's one I don't think you'll ever regret :)

Matter of fact been lookin for a 336 30-30 (cheep ) that I can rebarrel w/ a 24 bbl and chamber to 219 zipper w/ a little faster twist. In all actuality it won't be all that expensive of a zipper and as I mentioned it is one of my favorite cartridges
