That is awesome. Wish I had one in 45-70 to go with my rolling block but my 310 will have to do.

That's a pretty neat tool. I'm looking forward to a report on how it works.

Hmmmm, did they ever make one of those for the .45 Colt?

Man, are you fixing to get yourself hooked. I started the journey to the black side when I was 14, shooting cap and ball revolvers in competition. That's soon to be 60 years ago and here I am still shooting the stuff though mostly in cartridge guns. Oh I have a couple of C&B 60 armies and a front stuffer for deer since we have a separate "Primative Arms" season, but mostly I load it in cartridges.

Let's see, you need some SPG bullet lube, and some Ballistol for clean-up and lube. Probably will want some wads, either Walters Wads or Circle Fly. I like 30:1 lead/tin for my hunting bullets and to take a little of the edge off I use ffg Goex. If you give it about 1/8th inch compression it burns much cleaner. I load tons of 44-40 and it's just no different than the 38-40 as far as loading goes. Rifle or pistol, same loads go in both.

I know that using that old tool, you depend on the compressed powder to keep the bullet from pushing back in the case.

You may want a grease cookie under the bullet if the mold you are using doesn't carry enough lube for a rifle. I don't remember whether you are loading for a rifle or pistol. Both? Most bullets will carry enough lube for 20" barrel but you may need a grease cookie for longer barrels. Look for a "star" of lube on the muzzle after firing to be sure there is enough.

You are off to an excellent start. Those are nice pieces!

Hi Casastahle....that is a neat looking tool. I've seen pictures of such things before, but I've never seen pics of them in use. Whats the possibility you can post pics of it in use when you get around to it?

Not sure what you are up to here or what you are going to shoot it out of but Salter is an interesting source.
