Guns For Sale in an Austin Gun Shop.......
I was on business today in Austin TX and had some time to kill.
Went to McBride Gun Shop
Amazing how many people were in there!
Three guns I think folks here might have interest in:
Uberti 1876 in 45-60.........Perfect condition, consignment, $1300
Pedersoli 1873 Sharps , 45-70, tang sight, very heavt, 30" barrel, patch box, excellent shape... $895!!!!
Rossi, 92, 454 Casull, new......$499
If I could have gotten it on the plane I would have bought that Sharps.............And I just might have them ship that 1876 home..........(I already have a Rossi in 454!)

Another place that has a surprisingly good gun shop is Boulder, Colorado. I can't think of the name of it right now but it is close to the Pearl Street hippy extravaganza open air market.
When I first found it, I remarked to the owner how surprised I was that he had such a great shop. He told me that I would be surprised how many of these "*******" hippies own guns. He was right, I am. I am looking forward to going out there again this summer, we rent a cabin in Nederland every other year or so. Great trout fishing.

Those .454's are nice guns.

I'm a regular at McBride's in Austin although I haven't needed to go since before Christmas.

I have been to McBride's once. He didn't have enough older guns for me. I figure if the gun shop doesn't have very many older guns they don't give much for trade-ins and don't pay much for used guns so I leave quickly. I seldom buy new guns. That's my two cents. RR7

Do they have the "out of round" chambers like the 45 Colt rifles?AJMD429 wrote:Those .454's are nice guns.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

It's the second floor, where they have the Cowboy toys.
I also like this Austin Gun Shop.

WHAT SECOND FLOOR........No second floor in the store I visited. They did have a nice vintage Winchester 92 in 32-40 for cheap money (can't remember the exact amount)
I also visited Tex Guns.....they had all of a dozen rifles for sale....

SAAMI specs for the 454 call for a tighter chamber than the 45 Colt. Which works out great for 45 Colt case life.3leggedturtle wrote:Do they have the "out of round" chambers like the 45 Colt rifles?AJMD429 wrote:Those .454's are nice guns.
The thing with Rossis is to go in prepared to do a little tinkering to get it right. Some of them though are fine right out of the box. Especially the newer ones.
44-40 Winchester. Whacking varmits and putting meat on the table since 1873.
Re: Guns For Sale in an Austin Gun Shop.......
Yes, there is a second floor, it's mostly the gunsmiths, but they have some stuff up there for sale as well. First time I happened to handle a Yildiz O/U was while waiting on the smith to un-screwup a Mauser mount.
McBride's is a large shop, but a bit overpriced. Too many gunstore commandos working the counter for me as well. On the rare occasions I've had to go there, I more or less tell them to hand me what I'm looking for, and keep their mouth shut. At least 85% of the time I know far more than they do about whatever they're running their mouth about.
