I know its not lever guns but....the Paul Harvey Farmer tractor got me thinking and so I decided to post a few pictures of my Great Grandfather and Grandfather's old John Deere Tractors.
All three of these tractors were bought new by my Grandfather and/or his father and after MANY years of real use......restored by his son.
They do still roam the old 250 Acre spread in North Alabama from time to time....but they mostly just do shows.
My Uncle is in the slow process of restoring several more tractors that my Grandfathers owned......Internationals, Fords etc.
Very nice! My grandfather had a Model G, which I don't remember, and a 70 and 730, which I did some plowing with. All diesels.
Love the sound of those.
Yeah....I personally put many a mile on that John Deere M. I would take it to the general store about 10 miles away to get a Ice Cold Mt. Dew and a bag of chips. Ahhhh.....the good Ole Days.
You know....dont tell my grandfather (God Rest His Soul) but that think would ride a mean wheelie.
You cant tell it now by looking at them but they were used long and hard.
Did some machine work for a friend that has one of those, think it was the pin ( BIG ) that went through the clutch and brake pedal, they pivoted on it.
He would build it up with weld and I would turn it down.
I'm more of a classic car guy myself, but I do have a deep appreciation for the effort expended to make such a detailed restoration of these old tractors. They are a pleasure to see!

Nice looking tractors, one draw back about deere they dont have power down on the 3 point hitch kinda hard to put weight on a disc plow its the one feature the factory could improve on. danny

My grandfather had Farmalls and Fords.
A college buddy grew wheat using a big air-conditioned Ford, and bought up every Farmall in the county. He had a nice collection going, and of course had parts to keep most of them running.
Those deere you sure don't want to shoot... they are too Sweet of looking to do that to them... When your geat grandfather and father bought those tractors, they thought they had the world by the tail.

We had a couple of Fords and Farmalls also. Towards the end of his life he ran a pretty nice Harvester. I grew up on 250 acres in N. Alabama and while most of it was wooded there are two 40 acre fields that grew Cotton, Corn, Soy Bean etc depending on time of year and rotation of crop. Also had another 100+ acres or so across the road that he would lease if he needed more. Now my grandmother leases out the two 40 acre fields to someone and they still work that land.
I never drove a Deere myself, I grew up on Fergies, and Nufields.
