Our dogs we love...photos

Post by mod71alaska »

With the recent passing of Bill of Oregon's beloved dog, Watson, I think perhaps it is time again to post recent photos of our dogs we love so much!

"Daily" is my 6 1/2 year old English Lab. She loves to retrieve and loves the snow...the more the better!...and it's been especially fun for her this winter with all the snow we've had in NH. Right now she is under my desk asleep on my foot! :D

Shorty on left, LuLu behind on right, last summer. LuLu passed away a couple of weeks ago from undiagnosed diabetes. I've had several really good dogs over the years but she was my absolute favorite. 7yo Red Heeler mix, got her when she was just a few weeks old.

I didn't have a dog growing up...

We had cats, and I had 3 older brothers (one a twin) instead... Sure, the brothers had some advantages (older girls , other guns & ammo to shoot, and occasional free beer!) but I know I missed out on a few things by not having a dog around...

Anyway, here's my bride's girl Iris, age 5.5, having some fun with a bowl of crayfish caught off the dock of our vacation rental:

And doing what she does best!

Nice dogs above -- love 'em!

You're not alone! I lost both my best friends less that a year apart. Both were
15 plus years and without them I don't know how I would have survived my divorce.

I think about them near every day, it gets easier but the hole in your heart never goes away.

Here's Hank E. Dog (the E stands for Elthelbert  ). Mama was a Wheten Terrier and all we know for sure about Daddy is he was an international playboy and champion fence jumper. But we suspect Border Collie.

He started out like this with the "Don't worry, he won't grow into those feet!" nice nice words from the shelter:
Henry 1.jpg
Almost 5 years later he looks like this:
hank outside.jpg
One of his favorite activities when he's not chasing squirrels, tennis balls or rough housing with me:
hank pillow.jpg
Probably my favorite pic of him. Taken 2-3 years ago when we got a rare 6"+ of snow:

No shame in that friend. I lost 3 of my 5 cats in just over a year and each time I was pert near useless for a couple of days.

We got her circa 1992. She was already 1-to-2 years old. She passed away in 2005, just a couple of months before hurricane Katrina hit us. We think that she was a Norfolk Terrier. Here is a family portrait, from late 2004:

GCburt: What breed is Mazie? What a hoot!

Mazie is a Vizsla - the following discription was copy from Wikipedia:

The Vizsla is a dog breed originating in Hungary, which belongs under the FCI group 7. The Hungarian or Magyar Vizsla are sporting dogs and loyal companions, in addition to being the smallest of the all-round pointer-retriever breeds. The Vizsla's medium size is one of the breed's most appealing characteristics as a hunter of fowl and upland game, and through the centuries the Vizsla has held a rare position among sporting dogs – that of household companion and family dog.

The Vizsla is a natural hunter endowed with an excellent nose and an outstanding trainability. Although they are lively, gentle mannered, demonstrably affectionate and sensitive, they are also fearless and possessed of a well-developed protective instinct

Photobucket is goofy now, but i was able to extract pics of my sweet border collie mix , Princess (the black dog), and my Boxer mix, Dixie. (Dixie is nicknamed "Lil Red" by my wife )

Dixie looks like she could take on 5 pit bulls in a fight, but in reality she is afraid of cats, loud noises, and other oddities ---- both of them bark to high heaven when there is a strange vehicle on the property though, thankfully! They are a principal and necessary part of my home security system

apologies to my other 2 dogs, April and Buttercup i couldnt pay homage to today, but PB gets the blame

Mazie got a couple inches taller than her mother - she weighed 53 lbs at the Vet several weeks ago - HOWEVER she still wants to be on your lap as if she were still a puppy. Her legs hang out all over the place!

As long as mom and dad say your ok she is all lab and is a warm lump of fur with her ears back and looking for a belly rub.
Otherwise she is 52lbs of hard muscle and teeth and lives up to everything that you have ever heard about a Chow.

Another more serious look...

Shorty; vet thinks that he has some black lab and maybe some pit bull. I don't know what his heritage is but I do know that he is one tuff little dog that is very protective and will not let anyone past the gate unless we are there. Even our neighbors that know him won't come in unless we are home.

His favorite past time seems to be catching guinea hens and chickens, so I can't let him do chores with me the way LuLu (my Red Heeler) used to.
