I'm thinking of trading for a BLR in 7mm-08.
It's a new model made in 2000
I'm curious about sights forum members have used. I really would prefer not to scope it, but am interested is seeing your setup that includes peep, tang, receiver, red dot, holographic....
You get it...any thing but a regular scope.
I've had a BLR years ago when I was too poor to shoot it and too poor to own more than one centerfire gun. I'm appalled at how much I bought and sold it for (not to mention the two Rem 788's that passed through my hands in that time period )

I missed the no scope part.
It did get me thinking about it a d since my gun is already at Gunsmiths Inc for the trigger, I sent an emai about the cost of a snake bite D&Td on the receiver so I can leave a Williams FP there for backup.

If I got a BLR it would be to put a scope on it. I don't know, off hand, of a BLR receiver or tang sight although I'm certain that between the gun and sight adaptations could be made to get one to work.

I understand what you're saying, Hobie, but if I get a BLR it will be because I got it cheap in a trade. I'll save my scopes for my bolt and single shots. I'm interested in fast acquisition and I'm not partial to tang sights anyway. I just want ideas from other who have done something different with their BLR.

I wish I could help, but since I consider my BLR's 300 yard rifles, they all wear scopes. My .223 sports a 4x12, my .257 has a 2.5x8 and even my .308 has a Leupold 4x. I have a number of leverguns with receiver and tang sights, but I have taken a fair amount of game on the jump at ranges measured in feet with the BLR's and have never felt handicapped by their scopes. After I learned to keep both eyes open, I ceased to have problems.
Williams Gunsight seems to have the most options for you.
I'm sorry I have no pics of it, but when I had an early (1971) BLR in .358Win, I mounted a Williams WGRS peep in the rearmost scope mount prep holes, lost the rear bbl sight, and switched the front blade out for one somewhat taller to compensate for the higher line-of-sight mandated by the top-mounted peep.
The combo worked great, especially at the distances I was using the .358 at (up to 250yds).

I checked and Williams still offers the WGRS sight that fit the BAR or BLR.

I did not, but I should have replaced it with a slightly taller one. The Lo Pro had to be screwed down all the way, without the tightening ring, and that was just right.
OK, you did it now.
I've sent a Williams 94 36 5d to the gunsmith doing the trigger work on my 358 Win Takedown. I've asked him to install it rearward of the rear scope mount with a few thousandths clearance to the scope base.
I think this will clear the bell of my longer Leupold, probably not my Trijicon Accupoint. If it does not, I will make a compartment in the stock (they are hollow enough to do this) for it.
I ordered the knurled gib screw for the Williams from Brownells along with a set of target knobs and a gib for a 94 36 FP.
So with the QRW Leupold rings and the knurled gib screw, I should be good to go with either peep or scope in the field with no tools.
Will post pics and a review of Gunsmiths Inc. work and my experience with them.
