Breathtaking Photo---A Falcon Resting In A Tree
I don't know if this is old news or not but I got this in an e-mail last night and laughed my butt off. I believe I sent it to Griff.

A tree stand for hunting Koala's I'm trying to picture the Aussie version of Elmer Fudd and Bugs Bunny or Daffy Duck
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Re: Breathtaking Photo---A Falcon Resting In A Tree
Was the Falcon the Ford model whose gas tank exploded when hit from the rear?
Note missing rear wheels - maybe the explosion blew it up into the tree.

Have you hugged your rifle today?

The later Falcons with the little V-8 (265cid?) were real hot rods.......The 64 1/2 Mustang was based on it, I think....

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.
History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

I think it was the Pinto that exploded.
Re: Breathtaking Photo---A Falcon Resting In A Tree
The Pinto and Mustang had the same issue, but the Mustang looks sexier so it got ignored.
So told me a long ago auto shop teacher who worked for Ford in the 60s, and had owned about five Mustangs of that age.... before running a couple large auto repair shops and 'retiring' to teach high school auto shop. I figured he knew what he was talking about better than me.

actually the tree was planted as a seedling underneath the car and the owner just never moved it. Check the windshield wiper for parking tickets...

Pintos went up in flames. My younger sis had one that got hit in the rear while parked. It was pretty well burned out by the time the FD got there.
Oh, and Dad had a Futura (fancy Falcon) with the small block V-8 and a three speed. That thing could leave a strip of rubber quite a distance. But they were on the light side and were only really good on straights. Get into the twisty stuff and the back end tried to swap with the front.

Re: Breathtaking Photo---A Falcon Resting In A Tree
My dad liked the pic.
He has a 196x Falcon Futura CONVERTIBLE. Unfortunately the only things stock about it is the Body. the engine is from a Mercury and the Tranny is from who knows what, but OEM Futura Convertible Bodies are pretty rare. IIRC something like only 5800 total were made...

Re: Breathtaking Photo---A Falcon Resting In A Tree
Well, I thought you boys would like that. On another thought, I see we have a bunch of "old heads" here who recognize the Falcon. That's one car you just don't see on the road anymore........I mean NONE. They once were as common as Democrats in a welfare line but I guess once they were worn out, they got junked as who would want to restore one of those?
OK, I just know someone is gonna spend some time and find a beauty somewhere on the internet and post it.-----------------6

El Camino was a Chevrolet Chevelle based p/u, you're thinkin' of the "Ranchero".Old Ironsights wrote:Actually, the local Ford Store has a nicely restored Falcon ElCamino out front of the lot...

Thanks. I knew I wasn't right with ElCamino, but I couldn't remember the Ford name...Griff wrote:El Camino was a Chevrolet Chevelle based p/u, you're thinkin' of the "Ranchero".Old Ironsights wrote:Actually, the local Ford Store has a nicely restored Falcon ElCamino out front of the lot...

OTOH, most people "get" ElCamino where "Ranchero" means a Sandwich no longer made by Schwans...

The falcon was replaced by the maverick.
This one, mine, is about to get a 302 V8.

With a little suspension work, those were nice little cars....even more so with an extra hundred horsepower, and limited slip rear end....20cows wrote:The falcon was replaced by the maverick.

Re: Breathtaking Photo---A Falcon Resting In A Tree
Back in "the day", I would have killed for a nice MOPAR. Any would have done nicely, but, I think a stealth Roadrunner would have been great. Plymouth Satellite, 383 4bbl, a sane street rear end and torque flite, and a nice suspension upgrade. 20+ mpg, and never a need to feel inferior

Re: Breathtaking Photo---A Falcon Resting In A Tree
The first Rancheros weren't Rancheros at all. They actually started life as Falcon 2 door station wagons. Ford made a little over 500 of them and didn't sell but just a very few. The remaining unsold wagons were returned to the factory where they were converted to the Rancheros and sent back to the dealers. If you find one today you can still look at the bed and you'll notice a panel in the front of the bed that is held in by screws. Removing that panel will reveal the foot well for what was the back seat. I knew a guy that had 2 of them.

my father had two falcons. one was a 1964 futura sedan with a straight six and auto, the other was a 1964 sprint coupe with a 289 and four speed. My grandfather had a 1966 falcon futura sedan with a straight six with a three on a tree.
