Went out this morning about 6AM to climb on the atv and head back up on the mountain to hunt . The battery wouldn't crank ! So went back in the house and went back to sleep . Figured I'd go jump it before lunch and when I did it wouldn't hold a charge . So I pulled it out and went to the Kawasaki dealer to get a knew one ! That was $100.02 and the darned thing only lasted 7 years !

If truth be known I suspect 6 or 7 years for an atv battery is pretty good .

Seven years is good service from a battery IMHO. Most lawn and garden battery's only average about 2 years before they go bad.

if you don't use it all that much, how about a solar trickle charger? You can leave your battery installed and keep it charged up.

There are certainly others, but this is popular with motorcyclists....Those AGM batteries are tricky to recharge....over or under, and they give up some longevity pretty easy....

Seven years is good service from a battery IMHO. Most lawn and garden battery's only average about 2 years before they go bad.

Almost identical story opening day this year. Same longevity advice & price. Plus, NO warranty, even if brand new, out of the store 2 hours..

Wow, 7 years! With the spotty maintenance I gave such batteries it seemed I had to replace every 3-4 springs when servicing for the new season.

Not just for bikes. I have a car that doesn't get driven much, maybe once a week. I noticed the batteries were holding up as they should. Seems newer batteries just don't like getting discharged much. So I bought a "trickle" charger and keep it hooked up. No problems with batteries since then.

Now this below is what I have. The way I thought was the Junior was not for extremely cold temps however when I called my Yamaha Dealer they said both work well for cold temps too. its just the regular has a 10 year warranty intead of 5 year.

So I still am using the Junior, but if I had neither and was going to buy one it would be the plus!

When you hook it up to battery what you will have coming out from your front of hood is just the plug clip and it has a cover so when you are riding the contacts stay clean.

They do work extremely well, but 7 years for that battery,since my first one lasted less than a year darn good!
they ain't cheap those batteries. Next one I will get will be the Interstate one that fits my "small battery space"

Just had that very experience with my Polaris. $130, and it also had 7 years on it. When a battery starts to get puny, replacement is the better option. Yeah, my motorcycle gets a battery tender treatment in the winter, but that battery just barely gets the job done when brand new. My new ATV battery has been starting me up even in 10 degree stuff. I don't do ATV when it is colder than that.

The original battery for the Hayabusa lasted a little over 5 years.
The factory replacement about 3 years. During this time I was riding 100 plus miles a day a lot of the time. The Interstate replacement is at 2 years & going good.

Seven years at that price means it was costing you about $14/year, or maybe $1.20/month; that's not bad.

AJMD429, I am not complaining as this is a lot better than the Hondas I have had and the V65 Magna that I still own.

I owned a bike, and put the trickle charger on when not in use. For some reason a lot of honda bikes will not start if the battery voltage drops and outside temperature drops, especially the ones with two plugs per cylinder. Make sure it is a floating trickle charger, that will keep the battery at a constant level of charge. Should take care of the over/under charge problem. I just took the battery out of boat today and have it in the basement on the charger..It is the battery that came with the boat ten years ago.

I am lucky to get 2 yrs out of the small engine batteries on my Honda Shadow. I bought an AGM this summer and hope to see lot more years out of it than the last wet cell batteries. I use Battery Tenders on my stand by generator as well as the bike. I bought an Optimate 3+ this year. It has a desulfating function as well, that the Deltran Battery Tenders do not have.

I have our camper, boat and tractor in the unheated barn. I have the cheap Wally World chargers on all three. They seem to work ok. Diesel tractor with the snow blade on will not start if I do not keep the maintainer on it. About $20 each for the ones I use.
