Prayer Request

Post by Ysabel Kid »

Fellas -

I know I have gone to this well all too often in the past, but I have also personally experienced the power of your prayers, so I need to go to it again. My Mom fell last night at her place. They took her by ambulance to the hospital, where my wife and I (and my brother and Aunt) met up. She fractured her hip. They got her transfered to a "regular" room early this morning (around 1:00am). She is now in surgery to repair her broken hip. Going to be a long road to recovery given her age and health. Any prayers you can spare would be greatly appreciated. Her name is Diane.

Thanks,

Jay

Thanks fellas. My Mom's surgery went very well. They inserted two steel rods, one down the length of her right leg, from the hip to just above the knee, and one through a slotted hole in the first, near the top of her leg, into the ball and socket hip joint. Post-op took a bit longer than expected, but she is in her room now sleeping. Recovery will take a while at her age and given her health before the fall. I'm just glad it was a clean break - and really glad this happened before ObamaCare got fully implemented!

Just saw this post. Prayers for a good and full recovery sent. Talk to the Doctor about her bone strength. If she is getting osteoporosis, there are things that can be done including having her take supplements. If necessary, she might be put on a medicine such as Fosamax, but that is not what I would recommend as a first line of defense.

Thanks again fellas. It has been a long, tough week - especially for my Mom, but the whole family. I've been working, and at the hospital, and almost nothing else most of the week. Mom's surgery went well Monday, and they transferred her to a rehabilitation hospital Thursday. The issue has been complicated immensely because her husband (she remarried 20 years ago after being a widow for 15 years) is 13 years older than her and has Alzheimer's. She was his caregiver, and now can no longer do that. We are trying to keep it from causing a rift in the families. What a mess...

Your continued prayers are appreciated!

Prayers sent Jay; sorry for the delay (have been traveling and been sick too).

Effective rehab, a will to get better, and a lot of positive support from the family, are all keys to recovery in my opinion/experience.

My late father got the latter and former, but he sorta gave up on the middle one (either that, or his body did...) and the outcome wasn't what we all wanted. It's like a 3-legged stool, and you need all 3 pillars of support to recover.

Sorry for that rant/remembrance, but this struck a chord with me... Yet it is really scary just how life-changing (or life-.......) those breaks can be to our elderly family members. I do wish you and you Mom well.
