I stared at that photo wondering what cave you'd been in that you thought the LCR was new..... then once my brain finally warmed up I saw the hammer I have the standard LCR in 22LR, but having a hammer would make it a all around better woods gun.

I had one for a bit before donating it to someone more in need.

The LCR's got the best out of the box trigger i've shot on a small .38, as good as a S&W Chief's Special that's been worked over.

Don't care for the 'grippy' factory grips for concealed carry as they grab clothing and print, but they're excellent for shooting. The usual 2" .38 issues with long range work apply, but out to 20 yards or so, assuming you're only dealing with 1-2 assailants who aren't overly bulletproof as some prove to be, the gun does very well.


Good on them for taking the logical step for those who want a SA option.

I'm a BIG Ruger fan. And I love it that they keep coming out with new products.
But those LCRs just don't appeal to me at all.
I prefer my S&W J-frames (got 3 different variations). MY buddy has an LCR and I've shot it. Didn't hate it but my jaw didn't drop in awe, either.
It's also funny that 30 years ago I wouldn't have wanted a revolver without an exposed hammer....now I don't see myself buying a snub-nosed revolver with an exposed hammer, or bobbed hammer, or shrouded hammer.
I love it that they are selling enough to keep making more, though.

Nice alternative to a keyhole lock Smith if one has to buy new -- or needs one to hold up to a squib load or 2 --- wonder if one could polish all that lettering off the side of the barrel though

I like the contoured cylinder on the GP100 and the half lugged barrel. If they'd ship it cut for moon clips that would be the perfect package. I think Ruger is chasing the S-W 686 SSR Pro with this model and they are doing a good job but I also see they are asking S-W prices too.

That lettering is cut in DEEP with a laser guys. I own 3 new Ruger GP 100`s.
3" fixed sight,4" adjustable sight and 6" adjustable sight. Some of the most accurate and nicest handling guns I have ever owned.
I think the lettering is very nicely done and looks good.

The lettering could be fairly easily removed by a pro with the right equipment, but if you try to polish or file it off yourself you'd probably end up with wavy flats.

That's the hard part for me to swallow. I have a number of Ruger revolvers, but if I'm going to pay S&W prices, it won't be for a Ruger.

If you don't like the extras, stay with the standard model that costs less because...it doesn't have the extras.

This may compel me to buy one.... +1 on the woods gun, I prefer a revolver for this task. My CCW is a LCP, lite and flat.

Or if you're going to spend more money, just buy the better gun to begin with rather than the cheaper gun "dressed up" to increase the price.
